Ash Tray Removal

Does anyone know where I can find a detailed diagram of how to remove the ash tray in my 2001 TL? A bunch of change found its way behind the atray and while trying to fish it out with a paperclip that fell back there. Door will not close all the way, I can not fish it out through the diagnostic opening so have to either remove the panels around the atray or atray itself to get back there.

you have to take the centre console apart, there is a DIY if you check www.store.acura-tl.com , its not that difficult to do it just takes time and patience
Peace, Jeff

welcome to acurazine.

there's a search feature on this site that comes in real handy for situations like these.

i had trouble with this and i found a thread that had some great information on it.

the only way to remove those coins is to take the whole center console apart. but it only takes about 15 minutes to do. start with the side wood trims.. those come right off when you pull on it. after you take those off, look into the center compartment, there should be two screws on the bottom, under the thin piece of carpeting. unscrew those and start unscrewing the other screws where the wood trim used to be. soon enough you'll see that everything will start coming apart. take the shift knob off (just twist really hard), pop the little shift collar out and the shift plate itselff. they come off when you just tug on it. nothing holding it down but four clips. this gives you easy access to the two screws by the diagnostic port. take those two out carefully, this will help you remove the ashtray part itself. once done, just shake the ashtray console and everything will start coming out. this will also access you to clean all that gunk and nasty stuff underneath all that covering.

hope this helped. if not, just try searching. there are hundreds of threads on this topic alone.

Thanks guys, I got all the coins out except for the ones that fell down the transmission tunnel. Should this concern me? I'll take a look at the links.
