Only 54k On my dash, first tranny, is the car worth keeping or should i sell it off? how rare are transmission problems among the 2000TL? Don't wanna be stuck fixing the TL if things happen. And i do plan to do quite a bit of modding if i do decide to keep her! Any other problems besides transmission that i might need to worry about?

 

If you decide to keep her the really real first mod you should be doing is to Swap that POS trans for an Accord V6 2006-2007..
Obviously don't change it ASAP just have it around as a Definitive Spare.

Don't do anything before that because it will fail when you least want it to and it will make you go MADDD at the TL.

 

So drive it around until the first transmission fails? I won't be able! The car screams "get rid of this shit stock rims and lower me"

 

Well in that case just have in mind that your trans might go at all times..
PLEASE! Crave it in your mind!! And so when it dies at least say something positive like: "Yeah those rims and the lower stance really go well on my overpriced paperweight"..

Get the 2006-7 Accord tranny. Then mod it to death. You will be glad you did.
Or you nitrous the snot out of it until the tranny blows, put in the Accord tranny, then take the blown one out to the desert and shoot it with military style firearms. .....not that I have thought about it much...

~Do ya know the previous history of the car ?
~Are ya experiencing any real issues concerning the tranny ?
~Have ya done any PM or had the car professionally evaluated recently ?

If you're on a limited budget, do the PM stuff first....check the DIY sticky for common problems and fixes. Check the Black Market for used modding parts at bargain prices.
Are ya capable of doing your own repairs and modding ? If not, it may be wise to trade the car if ya don't trust it. Why spend money on modding if you're going to be worried that the tranny may fail.

Some people get lucky and get a transmission that isn't faulty, but more than likely, the transmission in that 2000 TL will fail at any given time without warning. It could last 6 more years, or it could last 6 more days.

As stated, I would put your money into either converting it to a 6 speed, or getting an 06/07 AV6 transmission.
