Apex V-AFC Question..Install pics

Does anyone know how difficult the install would be for a V-AFC in your sun glass holder....I also remember one member had it installed....Do you still have pics? What extra equipment would you need for the install wires, etc.....

Oh and does the V-AFC just plug in somewhere???

I also heard it messed up some of the vtec timing, so it cause a rought idle. So be carefull.

PS- I would never get one installed in my TL because the gain is so minimal, that the risks are over wheming....be carefull :p

The install isn't easy... you have to bonda it up, leave room for the wires and cut it so it to will close like stock, then paint it nicely to match. Installing it requires cutting wires (I didn't do this myself, I let someone who had done it before give it a shot - its done the same as for the Accord V6) that go to and from your ECU and running them through the V-AFC. Also, you have to extend the V-AFC's wires to reach the sunglass holder.

I haven't had any problems with it. It looks super cool, but as mentioned the gains are minimal. I haven't dyno'ed it so I haven't played with the fuel settings. I lowered the VTEC engagement RPM to 4300 (I think that was it) and it didn't even affect my gas mileage.

THAT is a very clean install! I took the simple route and mounted it in the glove box. It tucks neatly along the left side, leaving some slack so it can be pulled out and adjusted. I highly recommend the wiring harness from Frog Engine Controls. It makes the VAFC a plug n play. I can just pull out the wiring harness and one (like a dealer) would never know it was installed.

Thanks Nate...That looks clean as hell...I want that sooo bad...So basically with no actual modding it is just a plug in to the ECU?

No, unless you spend the $160 for the modified wiring harness, you gotta splice into the ECU wires. Talk to TopGum about where to get the wiring harness modified.

Thanks Neil! I'll check it out.. I was thinking of getting it installed and dyno tuned at AUTOTHORITY in VA for I believe $900 is that a bad price?
