Question Anyone seen "Availability Premium" on TL Type S?

I just recently become aware of the new Type S through some of the auto magazines. So, tonight I drove over to our local dealership to check them out. The MSRP sticker was $31,710, then the dealer had their own additonal sticker, it added $150 for a "Protection package" (which I think the guy said was wheel locks and something else). Then right below that was a line for "Availability Premium" which was $1200. I asked the salesman what that was and he said "These cars are so hot right now that we can't keep them on the lot. We have other dealers calling trying to buy ours all the time". My wife came across this forum the other night and I have read probably every message on here! Great information. So, what is up with this dealer? They are adding $1200 to the MSRP???? Has anyone else seen this? I have read about the deals some people have gotten on a non-navigation vehicle for around $30,000. Does that include the destination fee? Also, saw one Type S they had with a rear spoiler, that looked really good. Their charge for that was $750. Any comments on this pricing??

Thumbs down

I would not pay the $1200. The spoiler price is OK, but they are trying to hammer you for that fee. This is the first report I have seen about a "premium" dealer mark-up.

WAIT, or find another dealer. I do not think that the TL-S is at the RARE state right now...

It is also called ADM or Additional Dealer Markup. It is pure BS, don't pay it. You can get a TL-S for under MSRP if you don't drool too much over the car.

I told the sales guy that there would be no way I would pay over MSRP for the car. He said "maybe in the fall we might go $500 under invoice if sales slow down on them." My thought is that there are 100's of other Acura dealers!! Surely, I can find a great deal somewhere. I'm actually thinking of leasing this time. Wondering what kind of payment I can come to with the interest rates going down once again. Anyway, that will be another question when I find the right dealer.

By the way, it is hard not to drool over this car. Especially the black one with spoiler in the showroom!!!

The first Acura dealer I went to has a second sticker with a $1500 mark up. As soon as I saw it, I left. Any dealer that uses a second sticker isn't worth dealing with. I ended up at a decent dealer and they were willing to deal.

I paid $2,000 under MSRP on March 23 and others have done better. I have broken promises to post my contract on this site as time and experise hasn't yet permitted but I will try to do it this weekend for the honorable Mr.T and others.

Yes, it is hard to not salivate over the car but be strong! An indifferent attitude is a much better negotiating posture.

I spoke with 6 different dealers in Georgia, and none of them were charging any ADM (additional dealer markup). Some of them were saying they wouldn't go below MSRP.

The $750 rear spoiler price is an MSRP number based on what I saw while shopping (even though the Acura website says you can get it for $669, installed).

I got my Black non-nav (with rear spoiler) for $2500 under MSRP. Others have done much better. If you can't get a good deal in Tennessee, try some of the surrounding states. I remember reading on this board that someone from Chicago went to Wisconsin to get his Type S!

Good luck!

As nice as this car is, no one should have to give in to any dealer gouging.
In fact, most people got a pretty good discount off MSRP.
That discount might shrink in the near future as people are coming out of their shells. This might be a result of low interest rate (less than 7% for a 5 year loan!!!) and a life sign in the market.
Of course, in some areas, you may have to pay MSRP, but don't give in to any dealer gouging!!!!!
Say no, to "market adjustments"!

The vast disparity in prices between different dealers and regions is kind of surprising. My local dealer, the only one within about 70 miles, has offered me $1,500 off MSRP for a TL-S with nav. I would have jumped at the deal had he not tried to screw me for all of the options and CompTech parts that I want. I've offered to provide the parts myself (I'll buy them from Tim), and have requested a quote for installation only. www.parkaveacura.com is the only site I've found that publishes their price for CompTech parts and labor. Nobody publishes prices for factory options/accessories. I will try to get my dealership to match Park Avenue's installation prices. Wish me luck.

Gary Force Acura in Brentwood TN. I called the Acura dealers in Memphis and Knoxville this morning. Asked for the "fleet or internet" dept manager at both. Memphis said that they were neither marking the car up or down and would only sell at MSRP. Knoxville said they had 5 in stock and would go $1000 off on non-navi and $1250 off on navi. At least I found a dealer in Tenn that "might" deal.

May I ask which dealer you ended up purchasing from? Contact name at dealer?

Thanks!!

Remember that this is a retail business and dealers will try to get you to pay the highest possible price for their product. I went to four dealerships, and none had this premium addition to the MSRP. All were willing to go at least $1k below. I ended up with 30,100 plus some extras and my current last lease payment made for me. My dealership sold 16 TL-S's in total so far, it is the low volume places that seem to charge the most.

Shop around the effort is well worth it

Question

Hey roadman, which dealer did you get your car from? I've visited most of the NY dealers but haven't started talking prices yet with any, but I'll probably start in a couple of weeks or so.

This is a tactic that some dealers have been known to use so that when they eventually allow you to "beat them up" you'll feel lucky you got the car for "only" MSRP.

I think most owners will admit that MSRP is a fair price for the TL - a lot of us paid it with no regrets. Depending on your local situation deals may or may not be available, but it isn't that unusual to pay list. If you do pay list, try to get them to cut you some slack on spoiler, body kit, etc. There is an obscene markup on that stuff.

Just pay it. It's worth it.

The car is still a bargain.

That's the price you pay for a hot car these days.

Everyone wants them. Get with the program and write the check!!!!

Quite frankly, I find it hard to believe that ANY dealer would sell a TL-S for 2500 under MSRP! That dealer would not be making much on the car, but with the dealer holdback and $500 in profit above invoice, I guess they are still making money. Just hard to believe!

To Tuboara,

Good news, I ended up with the best deal from Acura of Westchester in Larchmont, about 15 minutes from you. Ask for Robert Ellard (914) 834-2222, tell him Joe C referred you. He will treat you like the car you are looking at- - - World Class/Top Notch
