Anyone replace the stock sub?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i was wondering if anyone replaced their stock sub with a new 8 inch sub...and if you have to wire a new amp to it as well. i havnt looked but i believe the sub has a stock amp too?. regardless im goin to take it out because it rattles when my 12's are knockin.....

If anybody did replace it, how was the quality and was it worth it....???

If you have 12's you dont even need that 8 then. Pull it out and let the vibes of the 12' come through. Anyway, the stock sub has its own amp "100w" behind the rear seat. People have tried to replace it with another free air sub, but it sucked. Your best option is use your current 12's.

honestly when I put my JL 10W7 in, I left my stock sub in there, just disconected it, and I never hear it rattle, even with some insane bass hits.

back to the topic, don't even waist your time trying to replace that small stock sub, throw in your 12's with a new amp and some new wiring and you'll be very happy you did.

If anything, pull your 8" sub to save weight if you got 12"s in.

FREE AIR 8" SUB..... Put an 8" sub that is supposed to be in a box, and it'll sound $hitty.. The speaker is designed to get a certain ammount of back pressure... A sub designed for a box (most of them unless specified) will sound crappy if it was installed free-air.. I think Kicker makes a free-air 8inch sub that works..

Check in the Offtopic section, you will be able to get wireing diagrams and everything you'll need for this project.

because I really can't pump it anyway with my kid in the car. I thought at one point I was gonna do a little system, but I changed my mind.

I'm interested in a replacement too as the stock sub seems to virate at
certain resonant frequencies. Not pleased with it at all. The RMB8 looks
like a mid-range unit. Is there any good drop-in replacement for the stock
one? Searched on-line but really did not come up with anything.

/Steve

The Bose system doesn't have an 8 inch sub, its a 9 inch from what I have heard in the past. Very hard to find another 9 inch. You either need an 8 inch with extended mounts or to build an MDF or similar ring to mount the 8 inch to.

My 1 12" Comp VR is loud, Im using 2 Ohms on my sub, since my sub came 4 ohms.. I also have the 9" hooked up still with the the 12".. Im using the 9" for a live wire and the best feature I like about it, is I can control my bass from my stock headunit. Both decrease and increase at the same time..

Elemental design audio makes some 8' free air subs. Their subs are actually a bit bigger than 8' and more like a 9inch sub.
