Question Anyone recommend a OBDII scanner

I'm looking to purchase a scanner, not to complex, but one to pull the ECM codes should I get a check engine light (which I recently had - clogged EGR port - taken care of by dealer even at 92k... another story for another day). Anyone recommend one moderately priced that will pull, identify what each code means, and reset the CE light? Also, are the OBDII specific to each Manufacturer? ( I could use one for my Ford)...

I don't know of one of the top of my head but if you go here you should be able to find a pretty good one.

mp3car.com --> forums --> OBD-II

I think there are a couple places that sell computer add on's for monitoring OBD-II requests.

By the looks of it, it won't be cheap though.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING ONE!!! Go to the AUtozone and they will read your error codes for free. And btw, just so you know, the OBDII wont read SRS codes, only "check engine" codes.

I heard Autozone won't give the specific problem but only a general tripped code... for intance, Oxygen sensor, but they won't tell you it's the one upstream.. ect.... maybe I heard it wrong...

This is one I plan to get. The price just dropped about $65 since I got my car last May!

If you get one just see if it reads Enhanced Codes and not just Basic Codes.

They will give you the code number. If you have a Helms, you can then check the number to see the exact failure.

I have a Helms but didn't see the codes.... got a page number? Better yet, I'm still looking for the scanner port. Some post in under/in the coin tray.... I don't see it . Do I have to remove the tray?
