Anyone know about the '99 NAVI system??? HELP!

Ok, I have randomly posted before about this, but not a thread. Hopefully I can get some good info with this.

Basically my NAVI will not load if it is hot, or the car has been in direct sunlight. When the conditions are not like that, everything is good, and when it does load up, it never has a problem. It seems obvious that the situation is heat related. I recently got a new disk from Paul - from this site, same situation. (thanks for the help Paul)

Ive looked at the connections...AOK, dont really know what else to look for. where is the NAVI antenna located? I wonder if a wire...somewhere - is kinked or maybe is shorting out. Would the sun make anything expand enough to rub or touch something?

Its just getting old, the worst thing is my clock doesnt work when it wont load, and now that the weather is heating up, it wont work at all. If anyone has any info or has looked at these systems please help. The two dealers Ive taken it too, have no idea of course - probably too much work for them.

Thanks all

Thomas

I believe the antenna is under the back seat cover on the driver side of the sub. Follow the wires on the back of the navi unit.

Don't know what you are asking for...maybe buy a fan like a computer fan for you navi system....that is all I could think of.

I am in Georgia and have the same problem on occasion. "System disk read error" or something like that. I asked my dealer about it and he had no good answer for me. The only thing I can think of is to park in the shade.

I was thinking about hacking the nav unit and giving it a little more functionality. Can you think of anything that would be worthwhile? I was thinking about putting in a larger hard drive and making an MP3 player. Any suggestions?

I've had the same thing happen, 99 TL with the navi giving system read errors when its really hot outside. Turning the car off then back on seems to solve the problem, but it always worries me.

You could try getting a digital thermometer that records highest temp reached, leaving it in the trunk, and see how hot it gets before you have problems. Or you could try to hack on some extra fans to it...

If it is a 99, the hard drive in the unit may be going bad. Some people replace the hard drive with a different one and others use a (I think) Compact Flash card instead. Do a search and you will find a bunch of poo on the subject. I have heard also some people replace the unit altogether with a DVD unit. Check, its out there. Eric.
