Anyone heard of this mod?
Saw this on ebay....
"This timing advance kit will modify your stock ECU with a resistor. This mod tells your ECU that the air coming in through the intake is cold air this advances the timing, letting the engine produce more power. Release the HP of your engine. This mod is a fraction of the cost of those expensive ECU upgrades, and does the same thing adds up to 20 HP!"
here's the link...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1853864892
Has anyone heard of it? Does it work? It doesn't sound too legit especially for $1.50

NO, it's legit. Not saying it's good, and not saying it's 20+ hp, but the theory is legit. I just sold my 2001 cobra to get my tl-s . (wife having another baby) This is a mod used on the mustangs. What it is doing is using a resister in series with the thermister. The thermister is the device (size of cigarette butt in a cobra) that reads the temperature of the air coming into the intake. We all know colder air can support a more dense fuel mixture, and your computer knows this also. That is why your car will kick ass the first 5-10 minutes of driving. the computer reads this cooler, and can give more fuel and TIMING. As the car heats up the air molecules can't support as much fuel, and the TIMING can't be advanced as much, so as to avoid DETONATION-your engine's worst enemy. Putting this "resistor" (which you can get at radio shack for $.25) will trick your computer into THINKING it is receiving cold air, so it can advance your timing, and give more fuel. Manual timing (base) on a cobra was good for around 10-12hp on an otherwise stock cobra, but I didn't like the "fooling" of the ecu. Now ESPECIALLY since the tl-s has a quite high compression ratio, the chance for detonation will be even greater. Save your $1.50 for a cold beer. A cold air intake will give you better performance without harming the engine.

2003-s is correct.
I had a resistor connected to my coolant sensor making the ecu/pcm thinkng it was running at a 160 degrees. This mod worked ok for me in my 00 accordV6. However fair warning.... When you try to fool something you 'might' get a check engine light. There are many sensors that rely on other ones. You must know what you're doing
