Anyone have straight piping on their TL?

Does anyone here have straight piping on their TL? My friends cousin has an N1 muffler with straight piping and boy it sounds sweet. Anyone else over here has it? Is it true you won't pass smog if you have a straight pipe?

Straight piping as in taking off the resonators and cat? That would be way too loud for a TL. IMO

And no, you wont pass emissions.

I've got straight piping on my civic and will have to put a cat on it by the end of the year so that it can pass emissions. No way in hell would I do this to my TL. Definately not doing that again......

If you're gonna do straight piping, it might be worthwhile to have a "test pipe" made so you can swap the cat into the section of test pipe.

Wrong.

Quoting kris' post, "when i slide the straight pipe inserts in the comptechs".

straight pipe inserts. Plural
comptechs. Plural.

The straight pipes are inserted into each Comptech TAIL PIPE, not the catalytic converter. Since these pipes are longer than the Comptech mufflers, they effectively eliminate the effect of the muffler.

actually straight pipes goes back to a time BEFORE the catalitic converter. it refered to NO mufflers, so hence im correct!

A "REAL" straight pipe exhaust (now of days) has no cat! that is wat he was trying to say.

but a real straight pipe exhaust refers to having NO mufflers. not a cat since that term came about before cats!

True a real straight pipe exhaust has no mufflers. So how do you have a straight pipe exhaust if you have comptech mufflers? am i missing something here?

i have 2 pieces of exhaust pipe that i slide in and use teh quiet tip insert holes to hold in place.
the pipe is the exact dia to slide into the mufflers which block off teh baffle holes making the mufflers well straight pipe

The original poster was referring to no cat though. Otherwise mentioning his friend has N1 mufflers would be pointless since they would be eliminated.

And how the fuck am I wrong? True straight pipes have no cat or mufflers, hence straight pipe. You're just taking about unmuffled pretty much.

Actually you are contadicting yourself cause you're saying when the term was coined, there was no cats. So a straight pipe wouldn't have cats either.

But the term refers to NO mufflers. not the removal of the cat. replacing the cat with a straight pipe is commonly refered to as a "test" pipe.

BUTTT the mufflers are still on the car, that some bullshit way of saying you have straight pipes. REALL staight pipes have nooooooooooo mufflers, not some tip insert crapps.

HAHA very true.
the mufflers are on the car but they do no muffiling since the inserts block the baffles. true its not the"straight" pipe (since you guys are trying your hardest to be so technical) but the inserts do the exact same thing, and it would sound the exact same wether i pulled teh mufflers off or had the inserts in!.

and how can your very true statement be ?? how can you have straight pipe (your idea of removing the cat) if they wernt on cars yet .so im not contradicting my self since the coined phrase straight pipes refer to removal of the muffler/s???

This argument is retarded.

Straight pipes are exactly what they say. Pipes, no cats, no mufflers.

Straight pipes = just pipes, from the block all the way out to the end of the pipes. No cat, no resonator, no mufflers.

Also not enough back pressure, thus a loss of low-end torque, and will most likely sound like ass.

i always wondered what it would look like if we had straight pipes like some people do on mustangs, just long chrome tips sticking out the back. down here in LA they don't do emissions tests either.... we could probably get away with it...
