Anyone have experience with Monroe rotors??

Hey Guys,

I need new rear rotors for a '99 TL. Best price I found were Monroes for $42 Canadian each.
Are these any good? My wife mostly drives this car so I really don't need any high performance stuff.

Thanks
Itch

You can also try out the NAPA stuff American made are supposed to be pretty good I have them on the rear of my car and have no complaints.

at that price its hard to go wrong. sure the car will stop but dont expect this setup to last very long or have good biting power. If you want i can get you in touch with someone who can get you good prices on Brembo rotors locally. (i'm assuming you're in montreal)

These are worse than OEMs. Monroe's are not an upgrade.

I always say, "Buy the cheapest brakes you can find."

I mean, if it takes an extra 10 or 15 feet to stop, that's no big deal, right?

Depends on what you're looking for. If you drive pretty conservatively, then the Monroe rotors should be no problem. However, if you are into performance, then they are a definite "no-no". 10-15 feet is an absolutely HUGE difference in performance terms, and can even mean the difference between life and death in certain situations. So, depending on driving style/preference, it can be either a "yes" or a "no". However, Itch, since it is for your wife who doesn't need high-performance equipment, I see no problem with these rotors.

^^ Sorry for the sarcasm. I wasn't considering "performance driving" at all.

Just the opposite - because she drives conservatively, if (when?) she gets into a situation where she must stop RIGHT NOW, she better have a brake system that is at least as good as OEM.

Couple that with the old adage, "you get what you pay for" and you come to the conclusion that skimping on brakes is a bad plan.

Buy OEM or a high quality, well known, OEM replacement, not the cheapest thing on the block. Doesn't his wife deserve a few extra dollars for piece of mind?

Exactly. After 1 or 2 close calls the cheap rotors will probably just end up getting warped. Get what you pay for I have learned that the hard way on a few car parts!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was checking out the EBC and PowerSlot brands, but unfortunately they're a little out of my price range.

BIGTUFFGUY...I'm in the eastern townships close to Cowansville....any ball park idea of how much the Brembo rotors go for?

1 more question....my pads still look very good in terms of wear....is it recomended that they be replaced when installing new rotors?

Thanks again
Itch
