Anyone else understand EGR valve problems
Ever since purchase my 1999 3.2TL has had problems with its EGR valve. About once a year I begin to notice a rough idle, sluggish throttle, then the TCS and Check Engine lights come on a few days later. The dealer has replaced it each time, then once did a major modification as a result of a service bulletin. But now the problem is back. There is an extended warranty for the emission system so it should be fixed this time no problem. My questions are:
1) is there anything I can do to avoid the problem?
2) once it's out of warranty, what is the repair that needs to be done. Where is the EGR, is it a simple repair?
3) is there a way to know its failing before it really goes out. I hate to think its a slow degradation of performance and fuel economy I put up with until it is so bad.
Thanks all

I hope this is any help... I had the similar thing with my truck before I sold it. I am not a mech. but I did some research on it. My problem went on for almost 2 months I replaced the EGR valve 3 time, 1 memory box, 1 diode... it worked for about 100 miles (trying to get an inspection stiker that is the minimal miles in my state) the light came back on.
The reason you have it is because who ever had the car before.. like every one else uses diffrent gas from diffrent gas station causing it to form CARBON wich clogs it up preventing it from opening or closing. That is why I use those glass cleaners like STP fuel injector cleaner.. but still pour cheap gas... OK OK what I did was got a .... listen to this ... I got a towel and wrapped it around a hanger. I shoved the hanger in all the places that the carbon could get stuck(not in anything rubber as you may damage).. this stuff will look black and hard like a rock after a while... by this time if the light is on this is what happened...
Other things that could be is a loose hose.. since you are under warrenty they should take care of this if you have any question email me...

Your car may need the EGR port drilled out with an inserted pipe kit into the intake manifold, and is available thru the dealer. It may be covered by the EGR warranty extension. I believe the 99TL's are involved... depends on the mileage also. call the dealer, it needs to be drilled out. and an updated EGR valve installed.
