Anyone customized this yet?

Well...I was looking at my car today...and the front lower lip...the plastic piece that houses our fog lights...I noticed that I really hated the vents between the fog lights. Maybe I saw it from a bad angle, and this is the first time I've taken great care in noticing this part of my car, but it looked ugly as hell from what I saw. Has anyone messed with theirs...such as putting a mesh grille over it or anything? Any ideas? Or did I just see it wrong. Anyone want to post a pic of the front lower lip from below (car's in the shop right now hence I can't just go out and look at mine).

The only thing I could think of about using that space is if you put an oil cooler there like they have on old style Cobras. That would definitely look sweet and be functional too.

You don't think a custom mesh grille would look good down there? As for the oil cooler...that'd be a good bit of work man...know where to get any?

I know I shouldn't be posting unless I can offer any positive contribution, but the only reason why I mention the oil cooler is because I recently attended an auto car show and saw one on a Cobra. I have no idea where to even begin about putting one in, but as for the grill...hey why not. I doubt that's gonna be cake to do either.

You can use the 2 holes for brake ducts.

Huh? Sorry I have no idea what you're talking about Ducts to cool the brakes...hmmm...

The oil cooler is a cool idea though...still want to hide it behind a mesh though...and edgalang, no I seriously doubt that the grille would be a piece of cake either!

i'm plannin doin it

I ran mesh under my 97 RL and pretty much had the plastic dremmeled out smooth. Ran the mesh. . Took about 2 hours. No problem. On the TLS though, I plan on spraying the mesh black and then runnin it across. I think it'd look better. And yes. . I will be placing the oil cooler in the back. Don't know how much it will cost, but I am thinkin somewhere around $400 installed w/ oil cooler. However, since I'm springing for the bodykit, I will be broke until the middle of next year. Sigh.

Well hell man let me know how to do this...also for the car illiterate among us...what kind of performance gains if any are we looking at with an oil cooler? Or will it just allow you to run your engine harder and not overheat it? And where are you getting your mesh?

kay, here's wut i did

ran down to Home Depot, and got the thickest mesh possible, cost about 5 bucks, enough to make 2 grilles. Then take off your front bumper. . dremel out the plastic with a carbon disc.... makes it pretty smooth. I don't know exactly how to spray it cuz i don't know if it'll bead up at the ends and look ugly. . . but then you just cut it, to around the same size as the hole. . a little bigger. Use some super adhesive bond, and attach to the back of your bumper. . don't lay it across the front cuz it'll look lame and not clean. . i can't remember the name of what i used. . but pretty much it does some chemical thing to bond the mesh to the bumper. . Problem is, many people don't like to cut and mess with their brand new car. . soooooooo. . . don't blame me if something goes wrong. lol. Well, i have to give my props to my boy Mike, because he pretty much did this all for me. . I just provided him with some pizza and he offered to help me out.

As for the oil cooler. . Good for keepin oil at a lower temperature, no performance gains. . just good in general for your car. makes it more reliable, can run it harder yes. . .. =) Which is why people should all get turbo timers.. . . to allow the engine to "cool off" after runnin it hard on the freeway. . . lol.

does this help?

Yup...custom ducts to cool the brakes.
To be honest, the TL-S has okay brakes, but they do get some fading when you push it hard. Maybe brake ducts are an easy solution. At least it's cheap to do.

Also, have you seen the new Integra Type R (aka. RSX Type R), they use the 2 holes in the grill as brake ducts whereas the RSX and RSX Type S use them as fog lights mounting positions.

Hmmm...good ideas gentlemen good ideas. As for cutting the car...my front bumper is a bit messed up, so I was thinking about getting a new one anyway. If I do then I'll put it off to the side, and I'll dremel the hell out of the old one and do the mesh on it (and the new one will be left so I can return it to stock condition)...

Is it good to have dust blowing over your brakes all the time? Trade-off i guess.
