Any Texans here?

I'm about to put my license plates on my TL, and I'm not sure how to put the front one on. I've heard that you don't even need a front plate in Texas. Is this true? I think it would look better anyways without the front plate.

I am sure Texas law requires it. That being said, I went 4 years without one on my last car and never got a ticket for it. (My wife even got a speeding ticket, but not for the missing plate.) Maybe I was just lucky.

If you do want to put it on, you probably need the license plate bracket. The bracket bolts to the car through the opening under the bumper.

I am thinking of removing mine. As you say, it looks better without it.

Texas law requires the front plate. My TL has a cheesy looking black plastic bracket that attaches to the front bumper to hold the plate. You probably can get one at AutoZone.. maybe call an Acura dealer to see what kind they use.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll just leave the front empty.

Hangman, you didn't have any plates on the car though, right? I think I'll be OK with the back ones on. Thanks for the heads up.

No front plate for either one of my cars. I got stopped once in the BMW for no front plate. He asked why I didn't have a front plate. I told him that I couldn't put it on because the bracket requires drilling. In fact it was in my trunk. Then I said that I've been trying to get an appointment to get it installed. He said "yeah right, I know that luxury car dealers don't like putting tham om because it makes the cars look funny. Don't worry I ain't gonna give you a ticket. Just the the plate put on." When I told this to my brother-in-law (he's a constable) he said to just put the plate under my seat and if I see a cop or get pulled over, to put it on the dash and tell the cop that I got pulled over for it before and the officer said that it would be okay. Apparently most cops won't ticket you for this if you were told that it would be okay by another cop.

You need the front license plate...trust me...you need the front license plate, and you have to make it visible as well...I know a few cops and they all say the same...Just put the front plate on and save yourself the trouble and the tickets.

i think in real houston the 5-0's don't care that much. They have real crime to worry about. Good luck in West U, Bellaire, memorial or Sugar land.

No tickets after stopping a front plate with my 89 Stang Conv.. That was in Houston as well. Now in Dallas and neither my wifes SUV or my Lightning has one.,. the Acura came with one (bought it used).

I read a post on another forum, where a guy took his plate to Kinkos or somewhere like that and had it imaged on some of that plastic that sticks to other surfaces with static electricity or something like that.. then he could just put it on his front bumper and take it off whenever he wanted to.. so for daily driving, it was on, for show and go, it was off.. thought that was a pretty cool idea...

Say welcome to the newb, me...

Dana
