Anti-Lock Brake Pump Diagnostic
There is a noise that last for about 2 seconds shortly after starting the car. It sounds like a pump kicking on...a little vibration or buzz I guess would be the best way to describe it. I didn't notice it immediately but only after a week or two of owning the car. I took it in this weekend and the technician said it was normal and that it was the anti-lock brake pump doing a diagnostic check. It occasionally does it at other times but usually just a low speeds.
Can anybody confirm this noise? You can't always trust the techs.
I have a type S, but I don't think that matters.
Thanks.

I heard the same noise when the engine is first started.
Other forum member also said this is ABS self-testing
sound.. So I don't pay much attention afterwards.

yup, don't worry about it, it's the abs self checking. i think it's on when your drive faster than 5mph? it's normal. on the other hand if you don't hear it you should start worrying, you might have lost your abs
