I just noticed a 1/4" paint chip on the lip of the driver's door about 3-4" down from the window. I can see the primer. My car is only 5 months old! I will see the dealer tomorrow.
I remember Hondas from Japan were much better quality than Hondas today. My mom has a 1990 4dr Accord and it is still pristine. I also had an 85 Accord HB and Prelude many years ago which are had much better finish than the 2000TL. My friend's new Civic also has paint problems. He has 3 dirt specs under the paint on the inside of the drivers door plus he can't change the time on his digital clock. Wonder if Toyotas of late are experiencing similar decline in quality.

BTW, how can I tell where my TL was made? I have a 97 and I am under the impression that it was made in Japan, but I would just like to know out of pure curiosity. Thanks!

I have a small nick in the paint on my roof (near the sunroof), and my car is only about 6 weeks new. I would take it back if I thought Montclair Acura might be able to do something for me. It needs to be fixed cause I can definitely see it rusting with time.

In 13000 miles over 8 months my car has 6 chips in the hood and near the sunroof. This car has a cheap paint job that is way too thin!! Isn't it only 2 coats? I could get that at Maaco for $189!

to find out where your car is made, look at your vin, if it starts with 'j' it's in japan, if it's '1' it's u.s. i think there are other codes for the us, but in the case with the tl, it's really a matter of 'j' or non-j. anything that doesn't start with j would be made in the us.

I just got back from the dealship and to no surprise they claim that it was not a factory defect but offered to put a bit touch up paint on it. I can't believe the paint chipped off already on the TL. All the previous Japanese built cars I had never did this.

My TL's underbody kit got scratched after about a month. The 3m clear bra is going on next week!

Ok, guys. I got my TL back in April 2000 and I didn't see that there were a paint damages on the rear right door right below the molding and inside of the rear left door. I took the car to the dealership a month later and they told me that they would have to ask a person from manufactury approve before they would do any job. The guy from the factory comes only once a month and I couldn't catch up with him for about 9 months. After I finally cought up with him, he agreed to do the job and the dealership took the car in. I called them 5 days later (Saturday) and they told me to pick up the car on Monday. It was January and I came to pick up my car on Monday and found it standing out side with open doors and sunroof. I looked inside and the found that the whole interior was wet and the ice was all over the front sits, arm rest, and floor in the front and in the back. As I found out later, they forgot to close the sunroof when they were washing the car and it took them 4 days to detail the car. The floor was still a little bit wet, but I took the car away from the idiots. The only thing they did good is the paint job. I cannot even see where I had damages.
I can tell you one thing, do whatever you want but take your car to the people you trust! And if you have the paint damage on your car from the time you purchased the car, they have to fix it no matter what.
