Am I a fool to get back into another 3.2_L
Ok, so I just totaled my 00tl and being the fool that I am I want to replace it with either a CL-s or a TL-s. Here's my concern: THE FREAKING TRANY!!!! Based on the bunk "market value" my insurance criminal-I mean adjuster gave me, I dont think I will be able to go through a dealership. And therefore may not have the comfort of a warranty (are those "extended warranties worth a crap?). For this reason I ask my fellow AZine members to give me some advice on what to look out for in choosing a replacement 3.2?L. More specifically, did the trany problem vanish in latter 03 modles or were they all jacked? What is the current status on Acura offering good-faith tranys-->whats the criteria? Is there a mileage restriction? Would I only be eligable for said "free" trany if I bought the car through a dealership or could I (if the sittuation occurs) get it taken care of after a private sale?
I loved my TL but no other car I have ever owned drove me as nuts as that one (and I had Corrado G60 - just a comparison for those in the know). Oh well, if you guys/girls can give me a heads up as to steps I can take to avoid going through the T/CL headahces we are all so familiar with it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sure I will get bashed for not searching other treads for these answers. But I figured I'd post this to gather info on the matter first. Bash away, but I plan to conduct the search after posting this. If you know of any killer threads on this just post links.
Thanks

Why do you say that? I mean I know they are fun to drive and fun to gloat about having but how are they mechanically?!?!? Seems like based on their rarity they may be a pain in the arss to get fixed.

The thread to read is Trans failure Thread in gen2 TL area
Its 20 pages will offer every tip and answer every question, including the fact that 03 were no better than 02, and about the court case, and that gen3 auto has problems still.
Warranty from acura is on the car not the owner, extended warranties on the car are avail as listed above. I wouldn't buy another acura without a super extended warranty.
Goodwill happens- read thread by phee for great example
