Question Alright...It all points back to the Type S

Alright.....

Done the research here in the western burbs of Chicago. Tried the I35 for a day and it has trouble shifting on heavy acceleration and hesitates as well. (Even tried a new tank of gas Premium).

A4 is for chicks or guys with small pee pee's

Like I said it comes back the TL Type S - Any warnings out there- have they fixed the trans problems you all are bickering about- I understand the car is going through a major cosmetic change in 04'

Any dealers west of chicago worth visiting??? The time has come to let go of the 99 Avolon XLS -

Peace

Welcome aboard. Good to see another Chicagoan joining the TL-S family. I got mine from McGrath Acura in Countryside. Service was pretty good and they gave me the mudguards (can't use them anymore since I have the bodykit), trunk tray, 3 free oil changes, and 2 car care kits for free.

Going to do any mods? What color are you planning on getting? Hope to see you on the road soon. Can't miss me, I'm the TL-S with limo-tint and body kit all around. Still haven't seen one decked out like mine yet in Chicago area.

Don't worry about the tranny issue, it will (hopefully) not affect you. Like any car, there will be some bad apples. Good luck!

Have you looked at the Lexus GS300? That seems to be in the price/performance band you're looking at...

To be fair you should probably look at the Infinity G35 (brand new model). You would probably have to pay top dollar for it and a fully loaded one will be 2-3K more than a fully loaded 2003 TLS. According to the just released test results from Car & Driver, the G35 with sport suspension and auto has the same 0-60 and is .1 sec slower in the 1/4 than the TLS. Skidpad is pretty close (.81 vs .84) in a favor of the G35. Braking from 70-0 in the G35 however is considerably better than the TLS by about 15-20 feet (can't remember that exact number). Exterior and interior styling is purely subjective and has to be judged for yourself. To me the exterior styling of both models is a bit uninspiring until you put the OEM bodykit on the TLS. Good luck!

Thumbs up Thanx for respoding- All goes back to Type S

Thanks everybody!!

Great site with good sugestions- As for the GS 300- I am picky and would then want to jump up to the GS 400 and a that price I could find a 2000 or 2001 540i sport - $$$$$$$$$$$$$

As for the guy in Schaumburg debating over the Avolon and the Type S - The Avolon is a great car - although lacks fun and aggresive driving tactics. It is definetely the kind of car you get when you hit your late 30's and paln to throw a baby seat in the back seat. Very reliable vehicle, very plain, the wheels "pit" if you go with the XLS. (Erosion) Ask yourself, Doesn't it look like a shoe box? TYPE SSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

If you run into issues with the dealer which usually you do when negotiating I know Marty Bredemann (Toyota and Lexus)and can help you if you are going to buy. keep me in the thread-

As for the my upcoming "S" I am waiting to the end of April- Do you guys suggest that this car is becoming hard to find and I should go negotiate now. I see several O3's on the dealers lot.

I'm looking for Silver/Navi/ out of dealer option-- a light tint and possible ground effects - I dont want to pay dealer costs and labor- Thanks everyone and enjoy the summer months - please reply.

It seems to me that supply is starting to exceed demand for the Type-S, at least around here. You should be able to start bargaining more on prices now. Since the 2003 model JUST came out, you've got plenty of time if you'd rather wait.

I don't think Acura has figured out the tranny issue. There have already been a few 03 Type Ss with tranny failures on the board. That's not to say it will happen to you but it's really just a crap shoot.

As someone who is on his 3rd tranny, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone buy a TL-S. Unless you want to buy mine

That's one way to look at it. On the other hand, I am on my second 02 TLS (Totalled the first one in a car accident) and I have not had any problems with the Tranny. My first TLS had 14,000 miles on it and this one is just hitting 3K.

I have to agree with Redlined...I wish I had found this board BEFORE I bought my TL-S. I could not recommend this car with so many other cars out there in this category that are just as good, if not better. All those horses are no good if the tranny doesn't work! Oh yeah...and mine is for sale if you would like it too. The replaced tranny decreases trade-in value...and it does get reported to CarFax.
