Alpine ilx-007 custom install into navigation spot

Thought I would post a picture of my custom install. I mounted it by cutting the back out the navigation unit, and the Alpine unit fit almost perfectly in its place.

Im still working out what to do with the ac controls, as I did not realize part of it was built into the nav unit. I pulled bezel from the junkyard, so may either go back and get the rest to install the navigation where the cd player was, or find a way to mount my old ac controls there.

Its kind of a teaser pic, but if there is any interest, I can do a write up on it.

I've thought about this as the screen on my NAV is starting to crinkle form the inside & had the same thought to relocate it to the stock stereo location.
But, odds are we'll trade in the TL when my wife gets her new car, hopefully later this year. So, a lot less of a concern now.

Looks like a job well done though

Now replace the A/C unit with the non-NAV and hack install it beneath to get full functionality.

Finial results...

I ended up pulling the entire wire harness from the junkyard and installing the nav unit and instilling it where the radio went. Makes for a great big clock and AV controls, but that's about it. The system is pretty outdated.

I decided I wanted more control from the steering wheel and upgraded the steering wheel to a 04 TL's then installed a PAC swi-cp5 to control the alpine unit.

So far I love it and it is working great. It gave a very nice new feel to the car now.

You should probably stick that radar on top of the dash with a piece of double sided velcro. In most states it's illegal to have anything impeding your view (eg windshield mounts) and even in the few select states that allow it, the areas are restricted. Keeping it there gives any cop a perfectly good reason to pull you over, go fishing, then write a ticket for obstruction of view. Also with the velcro you can yank it by the cord if pulled over without making any serious movements to reduce the chances of the officer being a dick about having one.

Looks great!
When I still had me '00, I was thinking the same, to mount the NAV where the factory radio sits & put a double din replacement in the NAV slot.

Nice work!

Great idea on the steering wheel! How expensive was it? (the airbag couldn't have been cheap). Do you get full functionality from all the controls?
