All ready for my 3 x 3 tranny fulid change...but

So new filter arrived today, along with a case of DW-1.

Just when I think I got the system down using the DIY that I'm going to use. Then, I read another thread or two and see something conflicting.

I have a 2000 TL 85k, recall ( jet kit) work done on time, and last tranny flush done at Acura at 65k.

I was going to do a 3 x 3 and drive 10 min through all gears between changes all in the same day.

But recently I read that you should do a change and drive for a week in between changes for the new fluid to acclimate.

I don't have any issues with shifting as of yet, and I want to do this more as pm than anything.

Also, is the crush washer for the tranny drain plug is 14mm or 18mm?

Thanks again guys..

I bought my '03 TL-S in May with 77.5K miles on the clock. The dealer where the previous owner serviced the car told me that there was a trans fluid change done at 66K miles about 2 years ago. Just to be on the safe side and not being sure what Honda fluid they used in 2010, I did a 1x3 very soon after I got the car. I followed that with a 1x3 a week later, and then I did a final 1x3 and a filter change about a month after that. I also changed my 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches at the point.

The transmission shifts noticeably better than it did when I first got the car and I plan on doing a 1x3 once a year from this point on.

I don't think that waiting a little bit between fluid changes is going to hurt anything in your case.

You can do it in a week or after 10min whichever is convenient for you. I am not sure what the crush washer size is, but I never need to replace it unless it is broken. If you broke the crush washer, you will have more serious problem down the line with torquing. The aluminum crush washer should last a life time, or you should replace one that is life time crush washer. Once the crush washer is molded, I dont want to repalce it.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I will just baby it and do a 1 x 3 and put some time between the changes, and do the filter on the last one. I'm in no rush to get it all out of there for any reason, other than preventive maintenance. As for the crush washer, I read in a couple threads to replace it after the final change, just like you would on your oil drain. I was almost certain crush washers are for one time use??

That is a very thick crush washer. I can't imagine it ever getting damaged since you should not tighten that bolt crazy tight. You will strip the threads before you damage the washer!

And good choice to wait at least a week before doing further fluid drains.

Thanks Victus1. I haven't changed it yet, maybe this weekend. I'll stick with the current washer, and one less thing I need to buy.

29 foot pounds torque spec on that plug, same for the engine oil drain plug

I would get it all out with a correct 3x3 per the book
which is max 5 minutes drive, use each gear up and down A FEW TIMES
includes park- r and n gears
then back on the ramps and drain it out

....and theres the wrench in my plans! Ha Thanks for responding 01tl4tl, so you do you see any harm one way or another? Other than just what the book tells you to do. Given that the trannys are tempermental, does acclimation of fluid make sense?

not to me,,
you are swapping out fluid
get out the old zr1 and in the dw1

I dont care about charts with dilution ratios and x percent mixed,,I dont want mixed from a week of driving!
all I know is how fluid moves and how to move it out

the 3x3 is actually for if you put any amount of dextron3 atf ,,it all must be washed out with a 3x3

for my money--the `accord method` with engine running and hot swap fluid is the most efficient
