All '99-'00 owners with CD-R problems

I finally burned a cd on my PC that worked really good in my '99 stock cd player.

Maxell Gold CD-R #623110.

I was told that a gold color may work better than the traditional blue for older cd players that were made before to CD-R boom. I burned at 1X speed, disc-at-once. Yea, it took an hour to burn the cd, but it was worth it. CD player now seems to find the beginning of the disk in less than 5 seconds, where before it took up to 1 minute. I also can advance to different tracks and only wait about 5 sec. for the track to start.

That's funny you mentioned that. I bought my 99tl last year and it was a huge disappointment to not be able to play CD-R's. That is all I had. My roommates and I tried all types of CD-R's. Maxwell did seem to work the best. I do not know how much money you want to spend, but I found a 00TL stock CD player on Ebay for $150 ( $850 from the factory!!!) I bought it for $150 and had a local car audio store install it for me. The 00TL stock CD player is the same size as our 99TL's, it was a direct swap. It plays ANY CD-R, burned at any speed just find!!!!!......I honestly think it was worth the $150. No more waiting fo it to play. I really hated it when I would go out with some friends and if they brought along with them some CD-R's to play ( no one really buys CD's anymore, everyone has burned CD's), it either would take 1-3 minutes to start and you could forget about skipping to the next track, and at times, it would not even play.......Try to find a 00TL or 01TL stock CD player on EBAY. Trust me, it is worth the price!!!!!

hope this helps

I've been using Maxell 650CD-Rs with the blue coloured disc (gold label though). Burned them at 8X and they all work fine for me. I have a '99 TL.

I had the same problem. 80 mins CD-R's are even worse. The best compatibility will come from 74 mins CD-R's, as they comply with the spec closer than the 80 mins. Has anyone ever tried the TruSilver backed CD-R's?

Yeah same problem. Burned Cd's take forever to load. on my 01 TL they took forever. My new one still has the same problem. Oh well, it's still better than buying Cd's.

although there are some cdr's that my cd-player won't play, but it doesn't take long to load the ones that do play,
maybe it's the build quality of those things

My '99 TL takes forever to change tracks on burned cds also. Sometimes a cd will work fine, then you put it in another time and it will take up to a minute or more to change tracks.
Would this be covered under warranty, or will acura just replace it with another head unit that has the same problems?

Sometimes my HU does that when the car is warm. If the car is cold (just started) it can skip tracks fine. As I drive along, it takes longer to skip the same track. Kinda annoying since sometimes it takes like 3 traffic lights to get 1 track to play...

Just talked to my dealer (Acura of Mapleshade, NJ)... I brought up the fact that some 99TL owners I "know" got their HU replaced. The service manager offered to take a look and replace it free. I'm going in on Sat, I'll let you all know how it goes...

Visited the dealer this past Sat and got my Head Unit replaced. They usually have to order one, but they actually had one in stock! All CD-R's now play FLAWLESSLY!

I just tried somehitng different with burning my cd-r's, Before when I burned CDr's i could only burn at 2x for my cd player to recognize it, and it still played funny, like not playing after a while and whatnot.. So I tried doing something diff with my burning software and harddrives, I set up my hard drives for ultra something performance, and then i changed the buffer on my Nero burning software to use 180 mb for its buffer, then i burned a cd with an Imation CD at 16X, and my Cd player now loves them, it takes like 4 minutes for full cd, and not a sigle problem yet, they run forever and dont take more than a sec to next track, its great.

Everybody try this, it might be your burner and software and maybe your hard drive, Try playing around with it.

I never had this problem until I tried to burn it on a 32X media.
I tried to burn it 1x,2x,4x, etc on the same media, it won't play, than I had some old 12X media, burn it, play it just fine. So I quess, older media work fine.
