To all the 6 swapers

Im begining to fund my 6speed swap project but i have a question for the all the people that have done the swap. If you could go back to when you first started the swap, would you look for a wrecked cl-s from copart or another auction seller or would you do it the piece by piece way like most people do? Just seeing if its better to go piece by piece or buy a whole wrecked car.

Piece by piece. I was lucky enough to get most parts from a junkyard that had a crashed CL 6speed but the engine was gone. I got the trans, clutch pedal, shifter assembly and pretty much everything but the engine for 1500. Got the engine for 900 but sold my TLP engine and trans for 850.

Just try to find a deal....

No need to get EVERYTHING new. Unless of course you have the money to purchase all new parts.

not true.

I got brand new clutch, flywheel, hydraulic lines, gaskets

i got used cmc and sc and totally regret it, i ended up having to get a new cmc anyway, so i recommend only NEW hydraulics

shifter can be new/used, depends on what price you get

it's actually a lot better to get the pedal assemblies used mainly because the clutch bracket from honda is over $300, when you could probably get a clutch/brake pedal set for less than $100 which includes this pricey bracket.

shift knob/boot can either be used/new. depends on the condition. i got mine used, i'm very happy with the quality.

just use common sense when shopping. if it's a wear item, get it new, but if it's something that you don't see people replace because of wear, you'll be fine getting it used.

happy hunting!

i got everythin piece by piece... i would say if u can afford it; new parts but there are some things its better to get used... The harnesses came out to cost me the most and ecu- any chance you get try to get it off a wrecked one but make sure you inspect everythin. I bought new mounts, harnesses, cmc, flywheel, clutch kit, brackets (my 99 tlp ones didnt all fit), linkages, and the down side was it ended up costing more.

Honestly the only real parts i would get new if you can find every thing else would be the motor mounts, shifter bushings (get some corsport aluminum ones to make it better) flywheel and clutch. Pretty much every thing else can be used.

Yeah, I didn't mean EVERYTHING, that's why I wrote most parts in parentheses.. I meant mounts, flywheel, clutch.. then again, I'm only saying what my buddy said when he did his swap.. he also has an account with Acura and gets some nice discounts on parts.. I don't know from experience.. I'm buying everything new for my swap though

Thanks for everyone's input. Im going to go with the piece by piece route and just shop around for everything but get the obvious parts like clutch and mounts new. 2 questions for you guys thou. 1. Will i be able to use other trannys like from the 6 speed accord or the 04-06 tl or is there any other tranny that fits. I know people go with the 03 cause it has the lsd but right now thats not my main priority. 2. My a2 has 220k+ plus on it, Is it wise for me to throw a 6 speed on it or should i just keep up on my maintence? It doesnt burn oil and it runs well.

If you go with any other trans you have to run the richie modules.

The LSD is worth the price of the trans swap alone, I wouldnt want the 6 speed without it.

Thats up to you. You can find low mileage type-s motors pretty cheap.
