Alarm Lock Sound - Replaceable?

Hey All,

I searched all over the forums with various search terms and couldn't find anything definitive on switching the 99TL lock confirmation sound from a horn to the beep. Has there been any progress from anyone? It seems like it would be fairly simple...

There was one post that mentioned getting an alarm relay, though I'm not sure what the implication of that would be or even why you would need one.

Can anyone provide some answers? Thanks in advance!

I was reading this post and am realizing that when I set the lock on my 00' TL it is supposed to beep. Is this true? Or do you have to have an additional alarm installed. I bought the car a while back and it didnt beep from the beginning so I thought this was normal. Does the rest of yours beep?

All I get is the parking lights to blink.

this was discussed a long time ago actually... it was determined that with the 99-01's, which have the horn, and the 02-03's which have the beep, you would have to swap the entire alarm module and relay in order to get the beep. i wanted it BADLY but not for that amount of $$$.....

My '00 beeps. That was switched in 2000. You have to lcok it TWICE, since the bep is for confirmation. Our Expedition works simiarly. Whn I hit the remote the 1st time, the truck locks. If I want confirmation, I hit the remote again and the horn honks.

I would think you could take the 12 volt signal going to the existing horn and feed it into a relay to trigger a beeping device without replacing the whole alarm system. Check with some alarm shops.

I have an 00' TL.

I tried this this morning and what do you know! You press once and the lights blink. Press again and I get a "beep" (no horn). What made me feel like a total idiot was I was at a long light so I pulled out my owners manual and it is right there in black and white! The claim "It is a reminder to you that you set the alarm".

Now my question is: I just set the thing! Why do I need a reminder? I think once press, one beep. Simple. Maybe its so you can come home late and if you press it once, no one will know.

If you have a 99, look on the drivers side shock/strut tower (front side). There is a small horn device there. This is where the honk/beep sound comes from. FYI, your actual car horn is different. They are mounted in front of the radiator.

I haven't done the swap myself, but you should just be able to purchase the beep (instead of the WEAK honk) device from acura, or just find one at an electronic store with the sound you like. Just make sure its 12Volts though.

Hope this helps, and let us know what you do.

I don't think it's an alarm but if it is, it's one cheap alarm system. I thought it was called keyless entry?

Hey that's it! give thanks to these Honda/Acura designers. they actually gave some thought towards helping our male cheating characters get home undetected. It's better than my clifford alarm which would beep a loud (beek-bok) sound which would alarm the ol' lady, or the dog next door which for sure would alarm the ol' lady then.......................... lol!
Just remember guys,
1:press once and not twice(for no beep),
2:grease up your squeeky door hinges,
3:avoid that creeky step on the stairs
and the most important of all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4:try not to jump into the shower b4 jumping into bed!
(WORK UP a by SWEAT by running around the block a couple of times, then tell her you went for a jog cuz u couldn't sleep!)
