Airbag recall again?

So Carfax just sent me a notice in an email saying a recall has been issued for my TL. Says it's the drivers side airbag. I already had this recall done a few years back and it shows. Now it's saying there's a different one that needs done. Seem weird to you guys? Planning to try and get a little more info this weekend from the dealership.

Why don't you call a dealer and provide a VIN? I would hope they know more than Carfax.

your first mistake is listening to carfax.

a simple call to a dealership with your vin number will take care of your concerns if any.

Well actually I just went onto the Acura owners site and there was a recall issued for the airbag inflator just last month. Looks like the word is just starting to get out. Our gen TL's are affected under this recall.

That's interesting. So only states with high absolute humidity values. That is kind of odd as couldn't it be an issue in other states that get humid a lot of the time??

According to this document and recalls.acura.com, only 2002 - 2003 TLs and CLs are affected.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha thanks I needed that
Yeah the first airbag inflator was limited in scope and VINs, so was our infamous trans wear issue/extended trans warranty vin's etc etc = for a while

It always starts with a few VINs the maker knows for sure are bad or real potential to fail (based on lawsuit data?), then it expands and expands-
example: see GM ignition recall of late- still adding more car models and years every month to the list! so will Hondas list for the new airbag problem

recalls are FREE and often include a free loaner car from dealer if its going to take a while to do the repair or get to it that day
Its not mandatory for them to provide you a ride so booking midweek is often helpful for loaner availability
Shockingly- some people drop their car off for service on friday and take a nice new loaner acura on a weekend adventure, returning mid-day Monday
Ask for a loaner if the repair requires drop off-
some are a quick 30 minutes, other times its a few hours before the tech certified to make the repair can get to your car after the 100 others that want it that day!
Yes the tech has to have a special training and certified to make XYZ recall repairs, so not all the techs can do the work.

I have the same recall. I saw it after scheduling an appointment for the previous airbag recall. I am going to bring it up with the dealership when I go this Monday to have the car looked at for the original airbag recall. Here is what Carfax shows: http://imgur.com/WTwKqAA

I guess the dual stage airbag is the faulty system here so I don't see it expanding to us 99-01 guys.
But you never know whats next.

when your car is at the dealer for anything, they are supposed to run the VIN and take care of any open recalls on the spot

The previous owner of my car had it at the dealership and I never took care of the open recall. Damn bastards.

that's a poor job by the Service Writer who has the computer right at their desk for cking recalls- the dealer gets paid to fix those,,- just lazy on the SW part I guess
Might want to have a conversation with the service or general MANAGER of the dealer
about that- its a safety issue is why recalls are issued!

If the car was at Honda disregard all I just said- they are separate companies as far as recalls are concerned- acura does acura recalls, Honda would not even ck for them

As always- its up to you to take care of yourself!!!

No, it was at esserman acura international. It turns out that my car wasn't in the affected range for the 2009 recall. However, it was in the range for the new recall that came out on September 3rd. They didn't have the airbag inflator available, so they're going to order it and I'll have to go back to the dealership for them to perform the recall whenever it arrives. Yay.

see! joining here was worth every penny!

Probably going to be a lot of that- we have to order the part- as many cars come in at once and use up the available supply- then the maker will have some problem with the new design and it will start all over again
Or I could be wrong, things change,,,right?

Oh yeah, this site has been a blessing. And if everything goes as planned, I'll learn some things about working on an engine that I would've never thought I could tackle.

Well, now it's just waiting for the call from the dealership so they can tell me when the part arrives. I'll also be checking up on the Acura Owner's website to see if they've upgraded the recall status from "Open" to "Fixed" (or whatever term they used for not in affected range). So far after 24 hours, nothing's been updated. I'll give it a few more days.

BTW, you work at an Acura dealership? Pretty sweet, the perks must be great.

that pertains only to YOUR car on the acura site- showing that YOUR VIN IS part of the affected numbers - so OPEN means needs to go for the service

after your car is repaired info will be entered in that systems knowledge of repairs done at dealer. info will transfer to carfax as well when completed

anyone reading their cars info and see OPEN on the trans extended warranty- that ended years and miles ago!! so it only means your car was eligible when in the time/miles limits

I DO NOT work at acura or any dealership--many years back I was involved in auto repair at all levels of the shop in dealer and private shops.
nor do I own stock in or work for seafoam, hidextra or any other places I mention in my post like azone oreillys NAPA aut parts etc
