Question air intakes

Interested in replacing the stock air intake system on my new TL-
Type S.

Anyone out there done so, what manufacturer, are you satisfied
with the results (performance), ease of installation with the hoses etc. Any suggestions appreciated.

I am puzzled. The stock air setup pulls in air from behind the headlight - isn't that cold air? And isn't that a tiny K&N or p\other such filter on the end of the AEM? Not the best filtration, eh what?

What do these gizmos claim to do, how, and do they do it?

Question AEM Performance?

I know AEM makes a good air intake. I think that would be something I could afford versus the headers which for the money do not sound like they do that much performance wise. I have two questions:

1) Those that have the AEM intake on their TL or CL, S Type do you notice a difference in performance and is it worth the almost 300$ you pay for it?

2) Has anyone heard that Comptech will be making a supercharger kit for our cars like they did the S2000 Honda?

Thanks-

But CAI sucks air from behind the bumper, and down low.... even after headlight, it's still hot(heat from engine)...

How much louder does the AEM make the TL-S sound? At what RPM? Also, can you have the coldair box and the intake together?

I have a CAI for my CL-S and it fits TL-S as well. The company who made it is no longer in business. To put all rumors away, it doesn't increase noise of the engine at normal operating speeds or RPM's but when you step on it, the sounds are addicting. My highly calibrated "butt" dyno says it's faster but I have no ET's, dyno slips, etc to prove it. AEM was kinda high when I decided and the one I bought came with the AEM by-pass valve. That gave me a little piece of mind. THe intake is below the engine well behind the front road lamp.

So let me get this straight, The intake does not increase the noise level except for WOT. Am I right?

Can anyone "feel" the difference?

Sorry for the repetitive questions, I am a little leery of installing something that may make the noise level higher. Also, I ordered the sways last Friday, my second mod. The first was the pumping my tires from 30psi to 35psi. That was a great yet inexpensive mod, cost me $0.50.

the AEM CAI has only comes in a 1 PC... you have to cut it to put in the bypass value..... or you can go for the Xephyr that comes in 2 PC and comes with a bypass value ( I think not sure).... i am also thinking about it.... the heard the Xephyr one... its not that load.. havent heard the AEM one yet.... didnt really feel a diffrence in the intake but loved the sound...

So it is not really a performance mod but an audio mod.

Hey Mike Come Check Mine Out

Hey man I've got a AEM CAI and I just put on my crankcase filters. The filters were fun, alittle removal of some parts. I bypassed the coolant line from where it ws originaly was going and made a direct line. EM me at www.juker008@Hotmail.com, since your in FT. Laurderdale I'll swing by and let you check it out. The sound is great!

It is definitely NOT just an audio mod. It is a definite performance improvement. It is just not one I have measured electronically. It is not any louder except at WOT. This is provided that you do not use the short CAI route. The long tubes must be used to lower the noise level.

I have the defunct Xephyr one. It was a great value even if the guy was a flake and snookered a few people outa money. It was a 4 piece unit. The upper tube, the by-pass valve, the lower tube, and the K&N filter.

Here's a pic of it:

It took less than an hour to put on and is pretty straight forward.

My AEM CAI came in 2 pieces with the bypass valve in between. Like people have said before, you can only hear it if you go WOT but anything below 3500 rpms, it is silent.

I'm curious if the AEM intake comes with decent instructions for installation. I'd really like to install it myself but don't want to screw anything up since I am a novice when it comes to engine modifications. I'm a computer guy.

One of the guys on acura-cl.com has an excellent FAQ he put together. I'm sure you will find all you need there: http://wizardsworks.org/chod/acura/

Thanks, guys. I think I will grab myself an intake. Now, the hard part, which one? The cold air or the regular?

If you're worried about sound and or performance, go with the CAI. The sound is less on the CAI b/c of the long tubin and the performance increase is better. Remember that a regular (short ram) intake still sits in the engine bay, so it is getting a lot better air flow to the engine, but not necessarily cold air b/c it sucks in whatever air is in the engine bay, hot, warm, or cool. Get the AEM CAI with the by-pass and you'll be loving life. That sound a WOT is a beautiful thing......
