Air Intake
Air Intake
I will be replacing my headlights on my 03 type s tonight. Since I will be removing the front bumper etc, I will be putting in a Short Ram Air intake. Does anyone know if the " restrictor box" does in fact restrict air flow ? It looks as if it has a cone that directs air direct into the spot where the SRI will be located. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this ?
Thanks
Thanks
its called a resonator box but we call it restrictor due to its real action
short ram cai doesnt do much for you as its right in the heat of the engine bay!,
just as easy to remove resonator and throw in a K&N filter to stock box

I currently have a K & N filter in the factory box. I thought i would get a few small fittings, and then re direct the Short ram towards the restrictor box, and then remove it. Does that sound like a good idea ? Or is the K/N better with factory box, and no restrictor ?
the K&N in the stock box is fine for me and many others -
remove resonator box and the small piece with it
That exposes 2 large holes in the bottem of the airbox- where the res used to hook up.
I suppose you could enlarge the inlet holes but never heard of anyone do it
It is a bonus in high water that it would take a flood level to the door locks to reach the intake box bottem...good safety feature as some have hydro'd their motors with full cai tubes
Plenty of air will now get stored in the inner fender area- where the airbox can provide all the engine wants on demand and water drains out the bottem panel thru slots
My insider contact- the Sr. Tech at acura dealer, said to do it!
he also suggest 1995 Legend LS-C front calipers, which I have
any metal tube thru the engine compartment is going to absorb heat and dilute air mass/density,,opposite your desired result
You want as cold of air as possible,,preferably available in large amounts, thats 'thicker' air and is better for combustion
the stock rubber snout from airbox to TB keeps you from having that annoying resonance ringing of a metal tube that all cais get
thats my opinion- others will vary,,I go cheap and easy on some parts like this diy to go big on things like brakes and suspension
