Air compressor
Air compressor
I am lookin to get a air compressor next month for my home. What size does everyone have and what size do you recomend? I wont be doing any painting, just using it for impact guns and such. Sears has a 17 gal 150psi on sale for 199.99. Comes with a few accesories also.
About 5 years ago I bought a Campbell Hausfeld form Tractor Supply Store. It's a 5HP with cast iron cylider and a 26gal. horizonal tank (called the "Farm Hand" I think). The only thing I had to do was run an independent 20amp line to my garage for it. It draws 15 amps / 120v. O.k. I'm partial to CH since they're made very close to me.
Love it though. No problems at all and change the oil every two years or so. I use it for air chisels, impact ratchets and anything that's inflatable. Paid about $370 for it and it also came with a 1/2" impact, grease gun and a length of 3/8" vinyl hose.
The accesories still sit in my basement unopened as I went to Sears and bought a much better 1/2" impact (that was really made by Ingersoll Rand but was $15 cheaper). After that I got a nice reinforced rubber hose; you'll appreciate that if it gets cold where you are. Then a 1/4" die grinder for the little stuff, a flip lever drain petcock and a portable hose real.
I put disconnects/couplers on the extra vinyl hoses just in case I need a line longer than 75'.
Having a compressor so handy I was able to keep up on the tire pressures on my last car to the point that they lasted over 80k miles.
