Angry ahhhh

i had to vent... i got my front brake pads refinished today, rear brake pads replaced, and had some rotora rear rotors sittin around so I told them to put those on also... ofcourse something is wrong when i get the car (i take my car to a guy who works on alot of hondas/acuras) my freaking subwoofer/amp doesnt work. So i go back, he doesnt know what to do cuz they were closed and he obviously wanted to go home. So i come home, pop the hood and the fuse to my amp is completely shattered. He said theres no reason for them to touch any of the audio stuff since they were only working on the breaks but still! WTF... i hate not having my subwoofer on. I plan on going there tomorrow morning to tell him he has to pay for the replacement because I'm going to get the shop who installed it to replace it. Please comment and tell me what you think i should do seeing that im 19 and i know being a 19 year old means i'm not going to get the same service as someone like my dad whose 52 if he could go with me.

i dont think its about the fuse....its just the fact
that it happened and now he got to deal with it.
he is right, you go in for brakes and they mess
with your stuff...the worse :shakehead

i hope its just a blown fuse....

that sucks man,

same happened to me, I was getting my tint done, and I went to see how they were doing, and when I walk in, I see the guy looking through my trunk for something, I was like what the hell are you doing! he started stuttering, and he was trying to tell me how he needed to look where the window ends or some bullshit, so we argued for a while and I got a free tint

but im never going to him again, and my cds were all over the passanger seat, he was probably listening to my music too

thats what happens when you pay people to work on your car...your shit gets messed with, and there is nothing you can do about it.

chalk it up as experience, and next time do your own brake's...its very easy.

Wow, never seen someone so irate over a blown fuse. Stop crying and just go buy a new fuse. Now if that fuse pops without you doing anything, then direct your crying towards them.

And you don't even know if they are the ones to blame for the blown fuse.

dude you dont get it. its not the fact of the fuse, its the fact they were messing with his audio stuff for no reason. its wrong, and they should fix it themselves!

^^ I agree, i wouldn't want anyone messing with anything in my car besides the thing/s they are working on. Thats why when I take my car in to get something fixed I watch them like a hawk.

Maybe when/if they disconnected the battery there was a surge when they reconnected it- give them the benefit of the doubt over something that easy to fix, unless you actually see evidence of tampering. And like fstty mentioned, have an attitude right away and see how far you get-

if he replaces the fuse and the sub still doesnt work then there's less evidence he can work with since he tampered with it.

if he brings it to them, and they replace the fuse and the sub still doesnt work, it's on their head

i'm not sure if it's the fuse thats blown, its the clear housing around the fuse that's f-ed up.... the clear plastic pieces that screw together... (i'm talking about the amp wires... the wire from the battery, connects to a clear plastic piece, that connects to another, and inbetween is where the fuse is, the clear housing that protects it was completely shattered which disconnected the "fuse") thanks for all the comments we'll see what happens tomorrow morning....

And maybe they weren't. There is no proof that they were messing with any thing, it may have been like that and its just a coincidence that it blew now. Also it might have accidentally got damaged if it was near the brake master cyl and they had to get to it to remove the cap or add fluid.

Is it one of them fuse cases that are made out of plastic and round? kinda looks like this? and there are plastic caps on each end that screw together to keep it together?

amp/wire <<==Fuse==>> wire/battery
(i know very crude haha)

Anyways, I had one that was broke by itself overtime in my older 94 Accord. Vibrations, bumps and then at the end it cracked on one side and the amp side of the wire started coming out. So i put that wire back in, and taped up that side up.

Unless it was mounted on like the firewall away from anything, I can see it breaking over time due to vibrations and/or hitting the hood from time to time etc etc. So there might be no one to blame, Thats my 2 cents.

If ur just saying the Fuse itself popped, well, those things happen sometimes, and the fuse saved any of ur stuff from shorting out and did it's job! haha. More info before more fingure pointing I guess

All you're saying is that your plastic fuse holder broke. Dude, I had the same power wiring to my amps in my car for over 3 years and my plastic fuse holder could not keep its composure on its own...it should've been in two pieces but it was in about 5, but I used some electric tape to make it stay together.

Was there a defined action that caused it to break...nope...it probably was just time, bumps, and the elements. And it's possible yours was already damaged before you even brought to the shop but you didn't know it.

I just don't think it's safe to blame the mechanic (though I've had my share of bad experiences). Everyone loves searching for a scapegoat when the scapegoat may in fact be themselves.

Agree. Mine is broken as well, not from abuse but just from age, temperature changes and vibrations/bumps. I have tape holding mine together too (till im not so lazy to go buy a new one.

^completely understandable except the day before i brought it in, i was showing my engine to a kid and distincly remember the plastic casing in in normal condition... thats why i blamed it on them... I woke up this morning, the guy left his shop and drove to an audio shop adn bought the part for me. I told him not to worry about putting it on I know the owners of a nice shop around town and they will do it... I thanked the owner for his service and told him that this is the reason I take my car to him everytime I need something done, because he is trustworthy and knows what hes doing and that I would see him over winter break when I bring my car in again to see if it needs anything and hopefully he felt where i was coming from... problem solved and subwoofer back on

When was the last time you popped the hood and actually looked at the fuse holder? Sounds to me like the mechanic had nothing to do with it.

Ive seen/heard of many "mechanics" disconnect power supply and its completely irrelevant to the task at hand...

FWIW, I opened my hood one day to find the plastic housing for my sub's fuse all busted to hell. The fuse was still being held in place by the two circular clips at either end so the sub was still working - but what the hell? No one worked on my car so to this day I have no idea how is disintegrated. It was a nice holder too, not your average gas station variety.
I'm not saying the shop wasn't at fault, just saying I had one of those "WTF" events happen to me.

Bottom line though, throw in a fuse. It's not like you are swapping out a heater core or something that might be a potential headache. If the sub is ok, move on & be happy that you have postponed an ulcer.
Now eat some turkey!
