Question Aftermarket Sound System Amperage

Hello. I am running three amplifiers that are all Infinity. I have one mono amp running my 10" rockford fosgate (4 ohm) punch stage 3 sub. I have one two-channel amp running each pair of 6.5 Infinity 62.9i speakers. The speakers work fine and never distort or clip. The sub on the other hand will work for short time spans right when it is plugged in and then it will eventually distort. The amps are not the problem. I lowered the gain and made the proper adjustments on the amp. I am running a stock disc changer head unit on my 2003 acura tl-p. I just got a new panasonic headunit and am planning on getting it installed. My only question is this...I am currently running 4 gauge wire, but with all three amps needed to be powered. I am right at the cutoff between needing 4 gauge and 1 gauge wire. Do you think I can get away with just installing the new head unit? Or should I upgrade the wire at the same time? I just don't want to fry my sub. But also I'm trying not to throw too much more $ into this. Let me know what you guys think.

Whats your total wattage youre running (RMS)? And whats your budget?

But first and foremost UPGRADE YOUR POWER WIRES!!!

I am running 1400watt RMS in my car. 400rms to my speakers and 1000rms to my JL w3s and I am running zero gauge from my battery to my distribution block in the back, and 4 gauge from the distribution block to my amp for speakers and 0 gauge from block to amp for my subs.

At the very least upgrade your main power wire from battery to the back.

I JUST received my Kinetik Battery today!! NO MORE DIMMING FOR ME! I also did the big 3 upgrade which i HIGHLY recommenced for you. Look at this forum and scroll down he explain the "Big 4 upgrade" https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/help-fog-light-mod-801563/

Total RMS is 400 for the sub. Total RMS is 568 for the speakers. Grand total of 968 watts RMS. Running 4 gauge power and ground wire. Running 8 gauge wire to speakers and sub from the block. I got it done for cheap. I'm guessing if the sub is only distorting that I need 0 gauge wire from the battery to the distribution block and 0 gauge from the block to the amp for my sub. I Was Looking At Getting The Rockford Fosgate RFK 1/0 Gauge Wire Kit. Let me know what you think.

x2 on the RF 1/ gauge wire kit! Kicker makes true 0 gauge wire. 0 gauge from batt to dist block then 4 awg from block to your 3 amps should be perfect, and make sure you hve good grounds!! Check the grounds on all your amps, make sure that it is grounded to BEAR metal, make sure you sand dwn the metal before grounding. with big 3 upgrade you should be golden. Total of about 60 bucks.
