Aftermarket Navigation System

I wanted to install a aftermarket navigation system but have no idea which one to get. Does anyone have pictures or a idea of a good one. I was thinking about putting it were that tray comes out. What do people think. I want one with a tv, navi, dvd player. Will I be able to use my stock system and cd changer?

FYI.
When I got my 02 TL-S without navigation, i had the same idea. But after looking around and getting informations about aftermarket navigations, is going to cost around $5k to $6k. It was actually better off to trade back my car for a TL-S with navigation, than to get aftermarket. Here's just some of the reasons why:
*No standard kits is made for the TL yet, so they would have to customize one for the TL.
*Kenwood has the best navigation system out now, but the navigation system itself is $2k(if you are lucky). And you would also have to get a Kenwood DVD/TV head unit that comes with a 6.5" touch screen. And this will cost you another $2,500.
*Now about our Bose stock systems. The Bose speakers needs to be change. From what I understand, the bose speakers are only good with the bose systems. I maybe wrong, but that's what alot of people say. If i'm right, the speakers and the woofer will cost you another couple of hundreds.
*Now you have all the materials, that's the easy part. The hard part is finding someone that has the "Balls" to customize a kit for you and install everything for you. My best quote for install is $600, if not, no shop will even touch it.

Have you considered the Garmin StreetPilot III? I'm bringing it up because with this type of unit, there is -no- installation, and it's a very functional unit. I have the SPIII as well as a Navi installed in my TL-S. I -prefer- the robustness of the SPIII over the Acura Navi, but the Acura win hands down in terms of ease of use (the touchscreen being a major reason for that). Both have positives and negatives, but with the SPIII, you're getting the practicality of a GPS without the installation hassles (and because of that, it's also portable between cars -- even a rental!).

I'm probably going w/the Kenwood NAVI and can get it for less than $2k. Let me know if you guys are interested, maybe we can buy multiple at the same time and save together. PM me.
Here's Tim's install

BTW, Tim's install is the Pioneer NAVI. (Comes w/Voice Activation now & plays DVDs).
The Kenwood NAVI unit does not play DVD movies, however, has amazing touchscreen capabilities.

while we are on the subject? Anyone know someone in Houston that can install the motorized monitor into that small paper tray space? I've asked a couple shops, but everyone wants to replace my factory HU.

What kind of Alpine does he have. I want to spend about 1500 to 2000 on a navi and dvd unit. What do people think is the best way to go?

only 4 months for me to respond. Sorry .

No, the Bose will not play DVDs, but you can use your factory setup for the AUDIO. You'll need to tap into the stock amp/HU though.

As for spending 1500-2000, are you talking about the NAVI/DVD unit ONLY. Because that's about all you'll get for that price. Remember, you'll need a screen too. A motorized screen will easily run you 1000-1500 w/out a tuner. If you opt to replace the HU w/aftermarket HU/Screen, then you'll spend another 1500-2000 + the same for the NAVI DVD.

Kenwoods NAVI does NOT play DVD movies. Pioneer unit does both and has voice recognition. The Kenwood has touchscreen capabilities.

There are many different options you can do. Take a scan and search through the audio section on this forum and also visit www.streeteffectz.com

(I'm planning my wedding right now.)

I believe Tim had to take apart the casing of the flip screen and customized to fit into the paper tray area. Anything is possible as long as you have the money. I have seen someone place their headunit where the coin tray is. They removed the coin tray and the cig lighter adapter and placed the whole unit there. Looks pretty nice. Couldn't find ne pics though..

Would this be possible...

The TV monitor in the paper tray area and then the dvd unit inside the center console.

Has anyone ever do it? Do you think it can be done? Any suggestions?

Yes. Poke around the gallery forum. I'm sure you'll see some of the pix. People have installed all kinds of goodies in the center console. Check w/kman, I think he has some light switches custom installed there.
