Aftermarket Brakes questions

it's only 30000 miles and i have to replace all 4 rotors!!!! i am not an aggressive driver but still...the car shakes at 60mph on hwy...at 80 the steering wheel is getting worse!!!! that sucks~

this is a well known fact that our OE brakes sucks like ...so does other hondas that doesn't spell Brembo's

if i choose to get the OE replacement at the dealership, i won't be walk away with less than 650 US

but if i buy some nice aftermarket parts and do it at my frd's garage, it would cost less than 500 US!!!

after a few days of research, I like the combination of Hawks Street Pads and having Power Slot Rotors at the front, and brembo OE rotors at the back. it's the quiestest combination for any high performance brakes. the rear doesn't do much so the cheap brembos will do it.

anyone has experience with buying new rotors or pads? which ones do u recommend??
can u share ur experience and how do u like ur brakes~

if your steering wheel shakes on it's own during normal highway driving it's not your brakes. your alignment is out if that is the case. now i'm only saying this because you did not specifically say this only happens when you're braking, in which case yes, it's your rotors. and yeah it is kind of unfortunate they under-designed the brakes.

your first new set of rotors may be covered by acura. i know alot of people got theirs replaced from pre-mature warping and acura moved to the cross drilled/slotted rotors. i would call and ask first if i was you.

I think the majority of people on this site use the rotora slotted rotors w/EBC pads (which is what I intend to get) of course there are a lot of other people that use variations of rotors and pads but from what I can tell Axxis pads leave lots of brake dust and some other pads squeel(sometimes). I'd say go with whatever you like. There is a guy in the groupbuy section of acura i n s p i r e d that has a group buy going on for the set of Rotora slotted rotors and Axxis pads.

I too have rotora and greenstuff pads, they do tend to squeek a bit when you are stopping. If you have the windows closed you will never hear it. It's a bit of a pain, but these are much better than stock.

Had a true test of this yesterday, guy (young punk, had to be 16 or 17) ran a red light (damn red BMW 318) and I had to stop on a dime, these sure did help. In my opinion worth the change and money (pretty inexpensive in my opinion).

don't you mean wheel balance? alignment helps even tire wear and keeps your car going straight when you point the wheel at dead center.

shaking without touching your brakes is a balance issue as far as my experience has told me. could be bent rims too, but that may/may not be fixable by reballancing your tires

btw, as far as pads go, I use raybestos quietstop pads on my maxima. haven't had to do the acura pads yet

it can be both. what you're saying is correct as well. i've had a few cars that shook on the highway when they were in need of an alignment. i've personally never had to have any of my tires rebalanced though. only when they've been mounted on the rims. just been lucky i guess. a friend of mine had an 02 TLS when they first came out and he had vibration problems due to loose tie rod ends at one point. (i shouldn't neglect to mention he also abused the car quite badly)

Got my Rotora slotteds from modacar for 298 after shipping. (142 front and 120 rear. 36 for shipping).
I am using Acura/honda pads. They work real good. No noise. I've had that set up for about 8k miles now. No warping, noises. Nice and clean. I can still see some machine patterns on the rotors. Very happy with them!

I had gotten my stock rotors resurfaced before the warranty was up and they warped again 4k later!! And I dont abuse it - I even dodge puddles and downshift in SS, but he stocks still warped 4k later. Then i got the slotted Rotoras and I knocked off one more item from my list of concerns...

Well worth the money!!
