aem pulley installation
I was wondering how hard is it to self install the aem pulley or if i should just take it to local shop. If i have to take it in, how much should i pay for installation. And for people with the pulleys, any gains?

First Line of the Installation Manual...
"This install is not for the mechanically disinclined" or something to that effect...
but i'm installing a set this weekend and if no one has posted i'll let you know...btw the install is for a 97 integra but i suspect the position of the pulleys will make for a pain in the arse install.

The installation isn't too difficult, if you have mechanical experience. The areas that will offer the biggest challenge are:
1. The lower alternator bolt - There is no good way to get to it. It requires an open-end wrench, and a lot of patience.
2. Removing the alternator from the car - It's challenging to find a path for removal. It really requires an extra pair of hands to hold the PS reservoir and hoses out of the way, and A LOT of patience.
The installation will take the average person about 1.5 hours. If you're interested in having them installed, I do installations in the evenings and on weekends. My price is $70.

That is a good price. The dealer wanted $150 for the install. I guess I'm not an average person, It took me way more than 1.5 hours. I didn't have the proper tools, plus I had to take the alternator to someone to take the pulley out, way too tight. I would say about 3 hours for an average person, but for that price, I would not do it myself......hey when are you moving to florida

You'll get conflicting reports on actual hp gain. I work for Honda Motor Company, and we supply cars to AEM for R&D purposes. My contact at AEM claims 11 hp at the wheels on a Type-S, but I think he was being a wee bit optimistic. Some members of this board, and the CL board, claim 10 hp on the dyno......but I've yet to see anyone perform both dyno runs on the same day (under the exact same weather conditions). For that reason I don't invest a tremendous amount of faith in those claims. From my experience I would estimate 5-7 hp at the crank, and roughly 75% of that will make it to the wheels.
