aem cold air

hey guys when you get your aem cold air intake installed, do you need to do any cutting or modifications to make the filter fit through undreaneath?

cause my prelude i had to make some cuts to make the hole bigger so the filter would fit.

nope, no cuts, just gotta take off the front bumper, slip the tube in from the engine bay, and attach the filter from the outside. it rests right behind the fog light, plenty of clearance though. whole process took me about an hour or so.

I have a question. after driving home yesterday about a thirty minute drive. i poped my hood and felt the cai and it was hot. is that normal, and doenst it defeat the purpose of having one if the air coming into the intake is being heated by the pipe?

not sure about the pipe being hot, but i would assume that it might be, being that it's so close to the engine. the cool air coming in will still be cooler than the hot air of the engine bay though. for reference, see if you can test the same thing on someone with a stock air box. does their intake piping get just as hot?

asloudasitgets...i think i read somewhere that its not necessary to take off the bumper, but i don't see how you can get the filter in with the bumper on. its really no big deal, taking the bumper out required removing a few screws, maybe 10 minutes total.

It's not necessary. I used the directions below as a reference and went in under the car as they do... my bumper never came off my car and I had no problems.....
