Adjusting Front Headlights, WTH?

Can you guys please help me on how to adjust my front headlights? The lights on the right hand side (passenger) is aiming higher than the left. So if you stand about 20 feet away you can totally see the difference because the right is shinning brighter than the left.

I removed the front bumper and tried all that I could to adjust it but the darn headlights of the passenger side still aims higher. What should I do? I live in a dangerous area so people are going to shoot me for blinding them from the back; and I'm too young to die. Thanks a lot fellas. Need step-by-step instructions please.

What you are looking at is the right headlight housing UPSIDEDOWN. The bolt you want to turn is between the HID & 9005 bulb. On the 2nd picture, the bolt is marked with a marker. If you turn it clockwise, the lights will aim lower...adjust it to your liking.

PS...you do NOT have to remove ANYTHING to adjust the lights. Just pop the hood and have a long phillips screw driver ready.

In the second picture, is the bolt in the lower left hand corner of the pic? I would like to do this as well....my passenger side is also a little lower than the driver side and it's annoying to see the cutoff in front of me driving at night so uneven...

No. it's the other one on the right. between the warning label and hi beam bulb opening. counterclockwise to lower, clockwise to raise. just reach behind /w the hood open and use a 10mm socket. easy as can be.

look on the Black plastic piece that goes from headlight - across the grille - to the other headlight. there is a little - L --> R and a U --> D on the black plastic (cover). with the headlights back on the car, you can use a philips driver to adjust each light up or down at one screw and left and right at another screw. SOOOO Easy when you see the little markes. There is a 10mm bolt to adjust the lights but you can move the bolt with a philips driver (it's designed to be a 10mm bolt straight on but a philips will turn it from a 90 degree angle)

I did tihs last week it was easy, I partked about 25 feet away from a wall at a school and put the beams about three feet high.

Reccomendation : find a wall with small (house style) bricks, makes it really easy to set the height and angle.

Btw, you don't have to remove the bumper, just open the hood look down and you should see that bolt w/ some grooves that u can use flathead to turn.

This is only correct if you use a phillips screw driver. If you use a 10mm socket wrench it is the other way around. By turning the screw driver counter-clockwise, you turn the 10mm bolt clockwise.

Then you got it backwards like I said earlier.

Remember...righty tighty, lefty loosy. By tightening up the bolt (clockwise) you'll be aiming the headlights LOWER since you'll be "pulling" the housing closer to the head of the bolt.

Thanks a lot guys! The picture helped very much and I was able to adjust the height difference to the best of my ability while projecting the lights against the wall.

It's amazing the level of knowledge some of you guys possess (and I'm not just referring to this thread's question). I only hope that I can someday return the favor while I learn from the masters to pass it on to the newer generations...

The correct aim for our headlights is 5.5cm lower than the center.

On the headlight cover itself is a dot. Measure from the dot to the ground. Our headlights should be 5.5 cm lower than that at 7.5m or 25 ft by using the top of the headlight beam pattern.

If you lower your car do you need to adjust the height of your headlights? If you just measure from the dot to the ground I can't imagine you'd need to, but anyway know for sure?

Hi

Someone hit & run my car, and I had to get new passenger side headlight casing in addition to other body work.

I can't see the L-R indicator on the black strip in my car. I can see the U-D and I did the adjustment to bring it up a bit. What bolt or how do I adjust the light so it is more centered, right/left-wise. BTW, I have an '02 TL-S. It seems they are centered per se, but the right headlight it seems brighter more towards the right side. Is that normal?
