acura highway robbery!!!

I was at work today & my wife had an appointment to get her oil changed @ the acura dealer. Ok this is usually about 40 bucks or so. I can except that. Well any ways they talked her into getting her 45,000 mile service. I've even warned her in the past of the bogus service that is done for the money. So she got an oil change, tranny fluid change, new air filter, & tire rotation. Would you fargen believe $319.00. WTF You gotta be shitting me. How the hell can they get away with that. I,m getting a little fed up with the acura bullshit, that seems to be more & more common. I'm so pissed right now i could spit FIRE. Bastards!!! Acura keeps up the thier antics they will being losing me as a long time multi car buyer. and i'm sure i'm not even close to being alone. sorry i really had to vent.

Wow, that is a bit extreme. You are right, when visiting your Acura dealer, you should know exactly what you need to accomplish and what not to be done. Having your agendas beforehand make it easier to refuse any of their "recommended" services because you will be nailed with an arm and a leg-charge to your credit.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely have to watchout for myself even more now in the future.

It's not just acura though. All dealers try that in one form or another. I just politely decline everything all the time.

Ok, the mileage services from dealers are designed mostly to be extra cheese for the service departments.

If you actually look at the list of stuff done on services, most of them are "check blah blah" or "inspect blah blah blah". Granted, there is a lot of stuff that actually should be done, but most of it is just cream for dealers.

The only time you should EVER do the services when the say is if (A): You lease the car. The dealer can charge you penalties if you don’t do the services or (B): If you cant do the shit yourself.

I have never taken my car in for the garbage services. I do the coolant flushes, and all the other shit myself. i still need to do the brake fluid though....

The $319 isnt so bad considering the hourly rate dealers charge, plus parts, $319 isnt so bad.

Besides, it looks good on paper. If you sell the car, or need it for leverage at the dealer, you can always say "ive done all the service maintence" and that can help in arguing price for the car.

It has its ups and downs, I wont do it cause i simply dont have the money and its much more fun to do it myself.

Dont be mad at your wife dude, the dealers will tell women anything they can to get them to write a check.

Tell about it, Last year instead of looking at x-mas trees w/my wife I stayed out front talking to a guy that had a new TLS.

The next day she took me to the Acura dealer to p/u the car she bought me!!
She wrote a BIG check - and no, we were w/o a tree that year!

I concur, almost all dealership service departments push the service intervals. My GF's Honda service department is ruthless (Alhambra).

But....if the service intervals were to be FREE...this wouldn't be a problem. (eg. other car makes)

I usually skip the short mile ones. I plan on doing the 60k mile one though.

Bought the lifetime oil change program at my dealer for $200 bux right after I bought the car and that is all I've been doing every since. Best investment I've made. The service maintainances in my book are just a way for dealer to make money. Just my opinion.
