Thumbs down Accident Pics!~

last nite about 11:20pm,, was leaving a friends house after chillin with some peoples,, i didn't know how to get back to the main highway from where i was,, so a friend from the house was gonna show me the way back,, he wound up making a wrong turn and stopped short,, at the same time i was plugging in my cell phone charger,, i was goin about 15-20mph and BOOM i slammed right into the back of him all in the blink of an eye,, both my air bags went off, i got hit with both of them cuz i was leaning over plugging in my charger like i mentioned, thrown back into my seat and then back into the airbag,, i have some burn marks from the air bags, and my nose is sore,, over all i'm in good healthi think,, just very very VERY upset and sad about the whole thing because if u know me,, you know that car meant alot to me,, i had it perfect just the way i wanted it,, and now it's TOTALED... well at lwe think it is,, insurance guy is coming on friday to give us the verdict,, but still even if it's not totaled, the car will never be the same again with the amount of damage done, even if they get te lines perfect, and the paint, and frame fixed,, oh forgot to mention the engine shifted back also and fucked up some shit in my transmisssion as well,, so as you can see from all that,, it's not even worth fixing,, i say total it,, this way i can get my 3rd Gen TL =D and throw the rims from the 2nd gen onto the new ,,, here are the pics,... thank god for collision insurance wheww

before i post the pics one other thing,, this car gave me a big reality check as in safety,,, the damage done to the rear bumper of my friends truck is minimal,, you can barely see anything done to his,, where as my car got crushed like a soda can! at 15-20mph...... if i was going any faster and thatr happend,, would i be alive?? it's making me think these cars are not safe above 20mph in a crash.... goodbye 2gen TL,, hello 3rd Gen TL!

Sorry about your car. That sucks. But one thing that really bothers me is when people say it will never be the same. Thats just not true if its done by a reputable shop. Frame racks are so precise now days it will be as straight as the day it left the factory and just as good.

And as to your concern about safety, ITS SUPPOSED to look like that. Thats what makes it safe for you. If it didnt crumple like that it would ba alot harder on the human body resulting in more injury. The damage really isnt that severe

WOW! all that damage and you were going only 15-20 MPH. glad to hear you were not that hurt. My daughter has a 04 Hyundai accent. She was on her way to work on Route 9 in Freehold, NJ. She was doing the speed limit (55) and had her seat belt on. Another driver made an illegal left turn in their rather new lexus. My daughter could not stop and hit that car head-on. The other driver took off. The only thing my daughter could get was it was a young girl driving it and it had the temp tag in the rear. My daughter's car ended up with almost $5,000 worth of damage. (not totaled)

Also, realize you hit a truck, of which the bumper was a few inches higher than your front bumper. If you had hit bumper to bumper, you might have gotten hurt worse.

$5k damage on a car that's only worth about $6k? I would think that would qualify as totaled!

we were thinking with that much damage it would be totaled- It took almost 3 weeks to get it fixed-luckily she had rental insurance. she got the car back yesterday- all fixed until next time. she would love to get a better car but she has other bills and no I am not paying for a car for her-she has a full time job.

The TL is actually a very safe car. I crashed my TL at speeds of about 50-60 mph (according to the police report I was going 70+...but I highly doubt that I'd be fine if that were true ). Anyway, my car looked like this after the crash:

As you can see, the damage doesn't really go beyond the fenders and hood, and my passenger and I both sustained no injuries. So the car did what it was meant to do, and absorbed all the impact before it reached the cabin which keeps the occupants safe.

Anyway, good luck dealing with the insurance company, and hopefully you'll get a new car .

I hit a blazer who stopped in the middle of a highway right around a turn, and I couldn't avoid it. I could only slow to about 35-40mph when I hit. This was the outcome.

These cars are VERY safe.

Here's the driver-side K-frame. Yes, thats a crumpled strut tower.

Saying it wont ever be the same is crap. Insurance adjuster estimated damages at around $6400, so it wasn't totalled. After everything including a transmission and all my motor and tranny mounts were replaced, total came out to $12.4K. Should have been totalled, but it wasnt. They did have to pull the frame, and weld in an entire new K-frame, strut tower and all. EVERYTHING is aligned right and the car drives like it did the day I got it. But, it took 3 months for them to fix it...

Glad you're ok, sucks though...you got one of the last sets of those headlights on ebay.

acura and Honda now design their cars to crumple like a soda can on portions of the car that do not contain passengers so the force is dissipated there causing less injury to the occupants in the cabin.

thanks everyone for the replies,,, but yea in my mind it would not be worth trying to fix this car the way it is now,, the engine is pushed back into the firewall and my trans does not work at all,, green, red, and black fluids are still leaking out,, both air bags deployed,,, yes i understand nowadays thay they can get cars ALMOST back to factory specs,, but never exactly,, what i'm sayin is,, ok if they don't total the car with the 12-15g's worth of damage,, great they can fix it,, but when i go to sell the car in another year or so,, it will have NO RESALE Value because of the carfax report that this is going to go on,, it's not going to hold it's value at all after an accident like this,, so fingers crosssed,, let the beast be totaled

with technology today, a car can be back at factory specs and sometimes even better if a good reputable shop is used that has had experience and that does not cut corners and takes the proper amount of time to repair the damage. A while back, my mom's car was sideswiped, and we got it fixed at abc auto i the junkyards of corona NYC, but after 2 years the paint started to peel off and body filler was exposed. Well, a few months after moving to florida, hurricane charley blew some stones up and shattered the windows on one side and a few object caused dents in the car. We got it fixed at a good shop in florida and the damage from before and this new damage could not be even seen whatsoever. When we traded this car in for our lemon 2006 MDX, the dealer gave us full market value of it and could not tell that it had been repainted/damaged.

The good body shops of today can bring a car back to factory specs and it will drive like new. Auto body repair technology has made huge strides with new, precise, computerized equipment. It's the shady body shops that cut corners, mickey mouse repairs, and use cheap parts that screw up cars so that they're never the same. As long as you find a good, reputable shop you shouldn't even be able to tell that the car was ever wrecked.

good luck man... hope you get everything that you should. IMO it looks close to a total, but don't let the insurance company take the car from you. tell them you want to keep it even if it is a total loss. then you can either fix or part it out.

btw, i crashed a 2000 TL doing um...fast...into a divider and it looked even worse than Wilz's car. i didn't have a scratch - just a comfy float into the airbags. the TL is really safe. i think you can check on the safety ratings, too.

THAT SUCKS!! At least your ok, those airbags that close could have f!!cked you up. As a personal injury attorney i see alot of pd photos and i guarantee you they will total your car out. Especially on cars 5+ years old, the labor to fix that damage alone is enough to total it. You biggest prob is going to be if you have any mods done, your insurance will not cover it unless you got that covered under your policy. They will only pay the fair market value of your vehicle if it was unmodded, even if you have receipts. Take whatever mods you can off before turning it over to insurance.

Verdict.....

TOTALED! but at the same time

the insurance guy came, really cool guy about the whole thing, he let me stay out their as he did his thing,,
he gave me the ballpark figure just looking at it at first he said "oh their's no hope" i laughed,, \
he said just looking without checking right off the bat 10G's,, as he was going over the engine compartment he kept sayin it's just goin up and up,, air bags driver side 600, passenger side 998!, headlights 200, bulbs 125, all the wiring that got ripped up, the ballset 300, radiator and all that 500 and change, paint labor bumper fenders hood, some structural reinforcement stuff 2-3gs' for all that, and the list goes on,,
in the end he said it would cost about 15-16 to fix and 3 months of waiting for all this ,, he said let's total it,, and since the car otherwise was in excellent condition,, my interior is perfect, the rest of the paint is perfect, the stock wheels are in good shape,, he said theywill most likely send me a check for 10-11g's within 2-3 weeks , the cool thing about that is that i paid 11,500 for this car!

luckily the only mods i had were the aftermarket headlights, the 8000K bulbs, the "performance air filter", and my 18" Enkei LM1/5s's which were NOT damaged and going on the new TL i get the chrome door pillars i'm not worried about that was only 45 bucks they can stay on,,,

what i do have is,, 02-03 tailights that i've only had on the car for a month, no damage to those of course
1 - 8000K Brilliant blue D2C bulb that still works and was not damaged which arrived a week before the taillights did... so really all i have to offer is the tailights because i am not keeping the car and the one bulb if anyone wants it,, make me offers if ur interested,, i may be willing to part out some small things that won't get noticed when they come to get it,, ,, it's just too much of a hassle to part out doors and seats, shipping & handling, packaging the proper way,, just don't wanna deal with any of that

i want to thank everyone that gave me positive encouragement about my well being,, it's just a car,, i can't be replaced so thank you's again,,, reply to this post if ur interested in the tails or the bulb
