Accelerating Questions

Hello All,

As of this past Tuesday, I'm the proud owner of a 2002 Aegean Blue TLS. I absolutly LOVE the car in every way!

I do have a question though, I have never had a FWD car before, but everytime I want to accelerate very quickly off the line, my tires spin, alot. My question is:

How do you guys get a good off the line acceleration with the TLS? (meaning with minimal wheel spin)

I just couldn't figure it out . . i tried rolling at 5mph . . etc, but couldn't keep from having the Traction Control light from coming on. =(

Thanks in advance everyone

A little spin is actually good for acceleration since our power
comes higher in the rpm band. Just turn traction control off
and get on it. If it just sits and spins... then the only remedy
is to get a set of summer tires and ditch those stock tires.

Since your car isnt broken in unless it was a preowned 2002 I wouldnot be gunning that much yet if I were you!

Yeah, go easy at first..unless it is a lease. Also keep in mind that the OEM tires are rather hard rubber compound, good for mileage, not so sticky and they tend to spin easily. I run gumball sitckie Pirellis with summer compound most of the year, and they hook up much better. But as others have said, a little spin is ogood for a car with a lot of crank in the upper RPM.

Flooring it from rest is not the way to get your best times in a high horsepower car. Someone recently posted here was doing 14.2's and said that coming out of the hole he got rolling first and then floored it. Minimal tire spin is your goal! Let the other guy sit there and spin - he'll be looking at your tailights.

I would asume so. Our car has about a 60/40 weight split between front and rear. I would think that all of that weight over the front tires would tend to help limit the slip.

I used to have a 1994 Firebird Formula (5.7 V8). In the rain???? Forget about it... I was about as fast accelerating as a Chevy Cavalier!
