ABS Question

So I was driving on this nice straight away and my friend was doing 130 on his bimmer.....so i decided to blow past him..... i went up to 145 and after that i had brake a bit to get into the toll lane.....then when i started to brake the ABS kicked in... basically the whole car was shaking.....so... is it normal for our cars to have ABS kick in at those speeds even though i sorta braked gently?

it's just some physics...

u r going at 120...that's some crazy spd...and all of a sudden u apply brake...

so ur car will dive forward and gives most of the pressure at the front end...

which means the tires will absorb the pressure and turns out to feel a little shaky at the steering wheel as the tires are overloaded..

I don't think that's the ABS at all, like what "samkws" said, it's the weight and the momentum that throws it all to the front causing it to shake. Well that's my 0.02. correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

Well the car was violently shaking...it was just the brake pedal shaking....the whole car was shaking...but that physics thing does make sense....maybe cuz i was going 145 made it very shaky... but i really think it was ABS because after i completely stopped then went off again.....the car would shake violenty when braking at speeds 60+..... but anything under that i could brake hard....so i think the computer ****ed up or something....well i turned off the car got dinner and everything was back to normal after.....but i still wanna know if ABS kicking in at high speeds is normal when lightly braking

Normally, it shouldn't kick in at high speed. It should only kick in when u slam the brakes with 35lbs of force or more.

NO, NO and NO! If your brake pads, rotors, suspension and balance tires are all in good condition, you should feel nothing no matter if you are doing 70 or 150mph.
ABS should not kick in unless you press the pedal hard enough for the system to think that you are in a panic stop and it will kick in.
You said the entire car was shaking, well the problem that you have must be bad enough that its felt on the entire body/frame, you should take the car to get check, you could have something loose on the suspension. Good luck.

do u know how hot would the brakes are if u braking hard from 145mph to a dead stop??????????

the temp would be too hot taht can melt the pads!!!
u got the shake afterwards becoz it's overheated and it went back normal after the dinner as the rotors were cooled off already...

if u don't know how hot it is, just look at some racing cars at the track...=P

Sounds like you warped a rotor, I did that racing a mustang, At speeds that hiigh your rotor is hot enough to wear uneven.
