About to purchase an '00 3.2tl... comments?
I've found a white '00 3.2tl w/ ~56k on it in my area, and I could get it for $18500. I live in Atlanta, and the car is originally from california, which (i think) means it has some special emissions standards? Could somebody explain to me if the CA emissions standards have any effect on the car that I should know about (gas mileage maybe, who knows?)? A few other things... if the break pads haven't ever been changed, is it safe to assume that they will have to be replaced very soon? Also, the tires are getting pretty low. I'm considering replacing them with Yokohama YK420s, because I've heard decent things about them and they are considerably less expensive than the stock Michelins. Any comments here? And finally... I'm assuming the stock tire width is 6"? Would it be possible to get tires with 7" width, or is this not feasible for any particular reason?
Thanks for the help....

Sounds like a sweet deal to me!! If you do purchase the car make sure you change the timing belt within about the next year. I would absolutly change the front brake pads with new one's. It is a simple job and the front pads cost only around $30 for both and $50 for the higher end racing pads. While you spend the 30 minutes changing the pads check the rotars in the front and make sure they are not all cut up from worn brake pads.
The TL models specifically made for california are ultra low emission. This just means that you are contributing to less pollution, which is a good thing!!! The california emission equipment will not affect your gas mileage or horsepower and the added weight is probably less then 10lbs.
I say rag the tires for a while and then get new ones
Good luck with your decisions!!!

make sure to buy a extended warranty on the car so your not left footing the bill if the transmission fails as there is a high rate of failure in the 2000-2002 transmissions.
good luck with your purchase

Thanks for the replies. The one I'm looking at also just had the tranny replaced, and I appreciate your offer Amir but black cars don't do it for me here in Atlanta... I actually left my wallet in one just yeterday and the plastic window where I keep my drivers license MELTED to my drivers license!

Tell me about it!!! I just sold my 99 tl with oem kit with 44,000 miles for 19,700. I had the lowest mileage and the lowest price. It took almost a month and a half to sell it. The guy that bought it new dog ish about Acura. The guy bought the car because it had had HID. He thought that was cool so thats why he bought it.

56K miles for a 2000 - that's high, but priced OK. Be sure to get the tranny checked before you buy it.
I have a 2000 TL with 37K miles, best mod I did was Comptech headers/exhaust - big hp increase and really no significant noise increase. AEM intake has a nice sound when you hit VTEC..
Tires - stock rims are 6.5" wide. You can put 225 on if you don't lower the car. 215 (55 or 60 series) if the car if lowered. I first put 215/55 SP 9000s but the car drifted regardless of tire balance rotation or alignment. Ended up with 215/60 Pilots (good tires) and OK with Comptech springs.
I'm going to 18x7.5 wheels soon with 225/45 tires. Yes, they make them in 45 series and that's closest to stock dim for no speedo diff.
