? about LED Fog Bulbs and Voltage Sensor

I was looking at LED bulb replacements for our stock fog bulbs. Does anyone have them? If so, how do you like them, and do you have any pics? I searched the TL and CL forums, but to no luck. Also, do our cars have voltage sensors for the fogs that will shut them off if it detects low voltage, like in the 3G TL?

Good question...I was wondering too.
I've tried everything except HIDs in our fogs (colored bulbs, colored acetate lens covers, etc) and I've never been happy with the results of how they look at night...I've just been driving with the darn things off.
I would try LEDS - anyone know anything?

I was just reading a few days ago that Siemens is making a single LED that has an output of 1000 lumens. Our HIDs put out like 3000-4000 lumens? So that would only be 4 of these LEDs. The fog bulbs I'm looking at are made by a well known company, so I'm hoping that they are using some bright LEDs to give good light output.

1000 lumens from one LED?!?! WOW - that's bright! I wonder how long it will be until they replace regular house light bulbs with LEDs? The energy savings would be tremendous - even over compact florescents.

And ITS NOT 1000 lumens.. they made a mistake or something... the actual company website states its around 590 lumens MAX @ 700ma for a 6 chip board..... and by the time u have enough of those, they will take up around the same amount of space (if not more) as an HID bulb. 7mm min for each chip....

don't let these things fool u..... there is still another 4-5 years for this tech.

p.s: low voltage sensor? WHO CARES.. lol... our cars have auto delayed off for all lights.... YEYE i'm happy wit dat lol.

You may have been looking at the specs for the old LED, but the website says 1000 lumens. http://www.osram-os.com/ostar-lighti...ts.php?lan=eng
Even if they were to take up the same amount of space, I'd rather have LEDs because the consume less power and they last a hell of a lot longer than incandescent and HID bulbs.
I wouldn't say there are 4-5 more years till this technology becomes available, it's going to happen much sooner than that.

Well I went ahead and bought a set of PIAA Tera 6000K LED 9006 bulbs to try out in my fogs. I'll post once I install them and give my impressions.

i meant 4-5 years until it becomes mainstream.... not until its available since its ALREADY available on the LS600H ...

and.... they say the brightest white can be achieved with 1000lumens, however NONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS can achieve 1000lumens in 1 shot.

http://www.osram-os.com/ostar-lighti...ts.php?lan=eng

obviously if u put together 2 of their highest end leds, u can achieve it.. but ya....

and yes they consume less power and last longer but leds can still blow out.. and considering this is a newer tech.. i'm sure there are holes to be fixed and issues that will pop up.

bottom line.... this is great once its available.... it doesn't mean anything when its just in writing...

p.s: the lexus already has it but not with these leds and it looks hot! check it out.

Ahh, I understand what you are saying now. Very true. Let's hope that these PIAA bulbs work out well...

Let us know how this looks! Maybe post pics. I was looking into these a little and they seem tempting, but for 100 bucks...I think we'd all appreciate if you tried it first

The bulbs are supposed to arrive on Wednesday, but I'm out of town until Saturday so it will have to wait until the weekend.

This weekend huh? NICE! I'm awaiting a writeup on these, it seems no one else has posted anything about these in the forums - at least with the quick search I did, has anyone found anybody else who has done this mod?
Kinda funny, I just saw an Audi S8 get behind me the other day. He had 4 bright white LEDs (or what appeared to be LEDs) in the bumper where the fog holes are. It looked sooooo nice. I'm hoping these are close to that, I'd spend the 100 bucks in a heartbeat for that sleek look.
DON'T FORGET TO POST PICS PLEASE!

Well I installed them today. The short summary: Color matching is 9 out of 10 (they are a little bluer than my 6000k HIDs), light output is 1 out of 10. So if you are willing to sacrifice light output for color, then these will suffice. I will take pictures later and post them. I will run these for a few days and see if I can take the decreased light output. If not, then I'll probably put in some Silverstars or something else.

Here are the pics. I tried playing around with my camera settings to get less glare, but I couldn't figure out which settings to use. Do you guys have any tips for that? I did not take a picture of the light output because it's basically the same as if you turned off your fogs. They shine out about 1-1.5 feet from the fog housing, and it's pretty dim. I knew I was taking a risk with these bulbs, but I'm disappointed that they are so dim.

The second pic looks like the closest colour match between the LED fogs and your headlights. Otherwise, the LED's look much bluer than the headlights (especially in the 3rd pic).

Too bad to hear about the shoddy light output of the LED fogs though. I'd prefer better light output than a colour match for the HID's. Then again, I prefer 3000K yellow fogs anyways.

Thanks for the pics though, AMGala.

I got them from eBay. The auction title was "piaa tera 6000k white LED,hb3,4,9005,9006" so perhaps these same bulbs will fit 9005 bases.

Night pics often do not produce correct colors, and I didn't know what settings to use to best take pics at night. My camera even has a preset for night shots, but it had too long of an exposure time and so the light was too bright. True, the LED bulbs are bluer than my HIDs, but not as much as is shown in the pics.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out as you had hoped. I totally agree with you though - I think the color of the output is really nice, but if they could just brighten them up. Maybe in time the technology will catch up with people's demands. Thanks for taking one for the team though, it's much appreciated!

I just installed some LEDs in my highbeams/DRLs and I seem to have the same problem as this guy:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ight=PIAA+tera

Only one of my bulbs turn on (when ussing my DRLs) becuase of the lower wattage sensor I think, I read that a load resistor can correct problem, does anyone know what resistor I need?

Which way to the LED's fire? if they fire directly out, then that would be why they are so dim. If they fire to the sides the light should hit the reflector better. When i made my LED fogs i had to do some mods to the reflector of the fogs i bought to make it look brighter.

What exactly did you do? Isn't there a way to "shave" the tips of the LEDs?...Do you have a DIY? They look pimp if that's the LED fogs in your avatar.

i bought aftermarket fogs off of ebay and also bought H3 LED bulbs . I took out the halogens that came in the fogs and spliced in the h3's. The LEDs in mine are actually not firing at the reflector and instead firing out because they looked better that way and are still very bright (1w led chip)
