About to get a TLS in canada

Hey everbody, my dad's bout to get a 2003 TLS, and i just got a few questions:
1)What is ur monthly pament(leasing) it?(if u dont mind telling me that is)

2) I've been reading about tranny problems with the TL. Should i be worried about it when i get the 2003TLS?

3)I'm undecided about black or silver color..... Is black that hard to take care of..i dont mind washin, waxing everyweek, and it will be garaged, but how long will that sweet ass clean black last?(after 1 wash and wax that is)... Also since living in Canada, i'm kinda getting uneasy bout black since the snow and ****.. Although i gotta admit black is soo damn nice when street lights bounce of the car.

4) i've also got the factory skirts and spolier for $2100 cdn. I think this is a rip compared to if i just buy it off the net. Should i get this or should i just buy it off the net---is it that hard to put on urself??(ps- i've been reading about it, what does OEM and AEM stand for)

5)wher tha FOOK is tha antanna?

6)Since Nav is not available in Canada, do any of u TLers have aftermarket Gps or nav things put in?.....

well thas pretty much it. Any info or suggs. would be greatly appreciated. Cant wait to get tha car though.. I'll be the envy of the school parkinlot..

Clement,

Welcome another Ontarian to the board !!

0. THANK YOUR DAD !!!!

1 You will pay a lot leasing the car... I bought mine.

2. I haven't heard of anyone in Ontario compaining about trannies... but I'm looking into an ext warranty. 03 supposedly have this fixed.

3. I got silver since it is VERY EASY to keep clean. If Anthracite (grey) was available for 02 I would get that.

4. $2100 for KIT and Spoiler is VERY good ... dont for get when you order from the US you pay exchange + tax + duty. It usually ends up being more expensive. OEM (Original Equipment Manfacturer). AEM is a company that make after market intakes. http://www.aempower.com/

5. Imprinted in the rear glass.

6. Do you really need a NAV in TO... I mean if it were available stock I'd get one...

7. School Parking lot is BAD !!! Lots of places to get the car dinged !!!!

8. THANK YOUR DAD AGAIN !

Keep one thing in mind though: TL restyling is due for 2004 model year. If you like the current styling, now is the best time to get it. But if you can wait out a bit, you might be able to get something nicer

1. I bought so I dunno
2. seems Cdns are going to get an extended tranny warranty too so don't worry
3. anthracite!
4. Call A.J. at downtown acura. He will probably sell you the car at invoice + $1000 and give you the kit at dealer cost. Tell hem I sent you "Hay-Ment"
5. Not big on the navi - it only really works in town where I don't realy need it.

What do you mean about the navi only working when you don't need it? I thought you can't get navi in Canada?

Also CLEMENT if you read this, mind telling us what kind of deal you got? I'm shopping for an 03 right now myself...

lease with OEM body kit and spoiler...
my friend pays 800 dollars a month for the lease

you shouldn't be worried for the transmission if u dont abuse ur car...

sivler is much better...but it's too common...try to take a look at the anthracite....

showing off...i don't feel like to show off with my car...it's not the best on the road and most of them would be "who the fook cares?" be low key so ppl won't give key stretch to ur car~

800 with the body kit seems like a bit much, unless he put absolutely nothing down. I'm getting the car for roughly $650 with taxes, and it comes with a spoiler. I'm putting nothing down.

How long is your friends lease for? The body kit isn't worth another $150 a month for 36 months! That would make it cost $5400!!!!

BTW the prices here are slightly better than in the US. WHen I was in NYC I paid $435 a month (nothing down) which translates into Canadian bucks as about $700 a month. I'm going to be paying about $50 a month less AND that includes a spoiler, which I didn't have on my US car.

1. stay away from Terrace gate Acura

2. you should not pay more than $1000 over invoice, if you don't know what invoice is you should! (for $25 www.apa.ca will tell you, well worth it b4 buying any car)

3. be careful with leases, it's easy for dealers to hide profits in the small details, make sure you understand all the terms and only lease if (i) it is a tax writeoff or (ii) you are 90% sure you will change cars in 4 years.

4. once you negotiate a price above invoice, the dealer should be willing to give you the body kit at cost, apa will tell you what that is

Good luck, if you need a good dealer lemme know, my guy AJ at downtown acura will take care of you.

Thanks for the hints. Instead of me going to www.apa.ca would you mind sharing with me whatever insights they provided you?

Look after me, I'll get your back when you need it.

YOu DO NOT have to abuse your car for the tranny to go out. Do a search, and look at some of the tranny threads, and people ditching this car. There have been reports on 03s also, so they are not 100% either. I would be worried about the tranny, even with warnt. you will still have down time for your car if it goes out, and will hurt resale. Just a few things to think about. At least YOU will know going into buying one.

I was considering buying another car last week so I went to my Acura dealer to find out what they would give me for my TL-S, they would have given me over full book value for my car with no discount due to any potential transmission problems. This car has excellent resale value. look in the newspapaers etc.

It was because of this I'm actually keeping my car rather than getting rid of it.

Well my car was a 2002 so things may have changed but here are invoice prices.

Dealer Cost 37,720
Freight 950
Air Tax 100
Total 38,770

Best thing to do is to go to the dealer and say "will you sell for invoice + $1000" and let them tell you what everything costs. Insist on seeing the breakdown.

And don't let them add any dealer admin charges or anything which are just another way of hiding profit. OK, maybe $75-100 is acceptable but not more.

Sry for the delay.

37,720 (Thats for the type S right)...
Did not know it was that high... I got them to go all the way to approx 39200 - 39400 (incl spoiler)... can't remember ... even almost walked out and then threw in my secret weapon !!! Now how much for the trade in ???? !!! They did not see that one coming !! (since it was my parents car and they decided they did not need another car!) Turned out pretty good in the end.

BTW I think you're wrong about the invoice price, since the price you quoted is 70 bucks off from the MSRP listed on acura dot ca...

Dealers must get it for less

Ajay at Downtown Acura is the man to deal with. He gave me sweet deal with my '00 1.6 EL Premium and also my Mom's '02 1.7 EL. Now I'm picking up my '03 TL-S in SSM on the 15th. Alan from their service dept is also top-notch.

If you are going to get the body kit why don't you get the a spec model instead. It costs $2,000 more than the regular type s. I just purchased my vehicle and Acura had a lease for 3.8% which, from what I was told worked out to be approximately $458 + taxes with $5,000 down. I bought vs leasing so I'm not going to swear to those numbers. As well most dealers seem to be driven to move the TL. You should be able to buy the vehicle for less than $41,000 plus taxes etc.

Stay away from Terrace Gate as well. I bought my car there 10 days ago and I've gotten nothing but hassles since then. I will be picking up the vehicle on Monday and God willing that should hopefully be the last time I set foot in that place.
