'99 TLP - tranny is dead

It feels horrible guys.. It's not bad in the morning when car isn't really warm yet... but later on, you can forget about it...

First gear goes up to 5k rpms (that's if i'm really careful) and then jerks Really hard into second.. So hard it's like a hammer hit my car and I felt the whip in my neck.. It does the same thing but kind of pushing the car forward, instead of backwards, after i come to a complete stop..

It's a '99 TL-P with 48k miles

One day about 2 - 3 weeks ago I did the same thing, but not nearly as bad.. and then it seemed ok.. and one day last week I felt the flywheel slipping when the car went to switch gears.. I heard it slip as a matter of fact... that's when I said.. "Oh ****, there goes my tranny" because i had been kind of suspecting this was starting to happen...

and then finally yesterday, she let me know it was time..

Don't get me wrong, I took it to get the dealership the first time I noticed it being harsh.. but they couldn't find anything ofcourse.. so they didn't do anything.. I was hoping not having to leave my car with them for a freacking month while waiting on them to fix it.. and having to drive some kinda crappy loander or rental..
but Nooo, they are always right, and we're just a bunch of dumb users..

Anyway, i'm done venting. Thanks

Taking it to dealship today, a technician needs to drive it with me to see what's happening.. they basically want me to prove it.
But it will be convered under warranty if problem is proved.. and they will pay for my loaner/rental..

That's what better happen anyway

sh*t.. nevermind what I just said.. It will not be covered.. I didn't buy the car "certified".. the tech test drove it.. problem is still there, but won't cover it..

Just curious.. Has anyone ever sold their TL with a bad tranny to a dealership that knew about it?

If so, they did give you less for your car because of the bad tranny? How much lower?

I suggest you call acura and complain to them use the word " lawyer " alot that will scare them . Also, this might sound stupid but it usually works. Here in new york every news channel has a public watch dog , meaning they help people who get screwed and show it on t.v. I dont know if other state news channels do this. A company like honda wouldnt want such bad publicity. I plan on doing this if my tranny ever dies.

Thanks for the suggestions Diesel_Blue_TL.. I'm just glad I don't have to use them anymore.. because the service guy from dealership just called me and said they're willing to cover 100% of the price of replacing the tranny.. including labor

Sounds like they want my future business.. and it's working.

I'd be careful with the lawyer word. These days so many people toss that word around and there are so many frivelous lawsuits that it causes people to circle the wagons rather than try to work with someone. I wouldn't use that word unless you have to.

i have to say acura is REALLY good about replacing the trannys. my first one was long before the 7/100,000 warranty extension and 20k over the factory warranty and replaced it, and now at 115k they replaced it no problem

Mine's been doing that 'jerking' for a while now between 1st and 2nd, while the car is still cold.. once the car is warmed up, the tranny works fine.
