Hows it going, is it a possibility you could send these files to me? My hard drive is toast 99 TL.

You have to hit a minimum number of posts before you can send private messages. I forget the number but it's pretty low.

Nu,
Which region are you looking for? That's going to be the first question.

FuzzyNutz,
can you send region 1&2 files to me? how big are they? I believe that covers the entire west coast right?

anyone else have the rest of the regions? I have region 7 (North Eastern) already.

Thanks

Bones & NU23.2,
I can take care of both of you, but just be patient. My method of sharing files just shut down and now I have to find a new method. Plus work is killing me. I'll try to post something tonight.

Fuzzy, just downloaded the region 1 files..thanks a lot man! YouSwap seems to be a pretty good up/down service..it worked like a charm. Is the 1GB limit total or each time? Thanks! Anyone else who needs region 1, I'm happy to share as well.

I think the 1GB limit is per file, which is pretty sweet. As I said before, I just found it because the previous service I was using shut down their free service. So far though, I'm pretty impressed with YouSwap as far as speed and concept, although I really would prefer to store the files online. Oh well,.. this one works and stores it temporarily.

Glad it worked for you.

Hey Fuzz no idea whats going on. I extracted the files and copied them to the compactflash card through the reader using my laptop. After doing this i installed it to the nav unit & it says on the screen needs to update files and reboot press ok, after pressing ok i get another screen for a split second that starts from 0-50-100 but it reboots to the original screen that says system needs to reboot. What am i doing wrong?

When I originally converted to a CF card from the hard disk, I tried a Kingston brand CF card. Turns out that Kingston's are notoriously problematic for our systems. The best and most consistent card is PNY (which is what I ended up using with great results), although I hear Viking's will work too. My advice is to try the DaneElec and see if it works. Worst case scenario you will have to buy a different one.

As far as the adapter is concerned, I doubt it makes a difference what make it is.

It shouldn't be that difficult. All you need to do is unzip the file that you downloaded and put all the files from the zip folder onto the CF card. Once that's done, just pop the CF card in the adapter, throw it in your Nav unit (don't forget to close the little door), and test your system. If it doesn't work, just drop us a line and we can help you I'm sure.

My experience has been that I am unable to use anything larger than a 512mb compact flash card. I tried the 1 gig's and larger with NO success, and believe it might be a different format on them due to their larger capacity. I have had sucess with MOST 512 mb cards.
My suggestion is to get a 512 mb card (getting harder to find) and all you have to do is copy the unzipped files on it (usually about 41 files). It's worked great for me as I traveled across the country this past summer.
Good luck and try the 512mb cards, if ANYONE has made a larger card work I would be very interested in knowing about it.

Yes, I spent a bit of time researching these compact flash card replacements and I have never seen a single report of anything other than a 512 MB CF card working.

Also , see page 2 of this thread for some discussion of how to format the CF cards:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0&page=3&pp=25

The formatting issue might explain why some 512 MB CF cards work while others do not.

Bob,
Just for informational purposes, I use a 256mb Compact flash card for the one region that is less that 256mg. I believe it is region 7 CA/NV. The other regions seem to require a 512mb card. As I previously stated, I have had NO success with cards larger than 512MB.

FYI,
* Use ONLY 512MB CF card.

I have tried 1GB and 2GB CF cards (Different Assorted brands) and they do not work. I ended up have to return them.

The navigation code is different than the one for the radio. Your local dealer might be able to retrieve it with either the VIN number of your car or the serial number off the trunk mounted navigation box.

I actually have not been able to get my navi system to work...looks like b/c I've been formatting my CF cards with Windows XP. All this time I was thinking it was the brand. Damn...does ANYONE have Windows 98 anymore??? SHIET...

These are my thoughts on the formating of the Compact Flash cards. The cards that I have that work are all formatted in the "FAT" format, as opposed to "FAT32" or "NTFS" format. It is MY belief that the cards must use the "FAT" format/file sustem to work in our NAVI system. I tried XP Porfessional and if I select the MY COMPUTER then the drive:# of the card and right click on that drive, select format option, then change the "File System" to FAT, I am able to format in the "FAT" format. That works for work for me.

Before reformatting I would check the card to see how it is already formatted.

Good luck.

sorry to bring this thread back up again.

i've been following this one for awhile and i finally got ahold of all the equipment to do this. i'm in CA, so i got region 1 from the mansjur.net website, unzipped it onto my CF card(viking 512) and popped it into my car. says that the drive is unformatted(same as what it was saying when i bought the car in june). now i've reformatted the card to FAT(the way UNLC described what works for him) and it still doesnt work. and like miamirice, i know nobody that still runs win98. any suggestions?
