99 3.2tl Transmition Repair Needed
Hi,
I know this topic has been discussed to death... but my 99 3.2 TL is on its last days with the way my tranny has been acting. It used to switch gears hard, but now it kicks really hard and often the engine revs real high and the gears dont change and the car just idles.
I have called Mr. Transmition and they want $3100 + tax to rebuild the tranny.
Does anyone have any good recomendations in Toronto area where I can get my tranny looked at and repaired without costing me an arm and a leg?
Any suggestions on what it can be? Can transmitions be repaired or once they are gone, they are gone... btw, there is no warrany my milage is 233 KM
Thanks,
Mike

Thats not worth it man, its just to rebuild it. Rebuild trannies are much worse than getting a new one because well, once you wear something off, you only fix it so it can last a little longer. Whereas you get a new one, for probably the same price, you would get a longer warrenty and such. But like Penance said, get a used one! The chances are, and more likely that your used tranny would last longer than a rebuilt one cause well, how do you know if the rebuilt one was rebuilt properly? You don't, and also many shops, they take your used, burned out, and shot up tranny and rebuild it anyways...so my mechanic says...which therefore gave me a better pricing cause he gave me a good deal on a used tranny. You just gotta bargin and know where you stand! Good luck man, it happens to the best of us.

in a rebuild there still is that chance it will fail, same with a used. but with used, half the price, and who knows how long it can last, longer than a rebuild or shorter, but all n all, its still cheaper

Also, it is incorrect that a rebuilt transmission is prone to failure. If it is rebuilt properly, and upgrades are made to the latest OEM specs, it will be even MORE reliable than the previous unit. That's where it pays to have a good rebuilder, or to purchase from a company that has the remanufacturing facilities to dyno test the units and automatically rebuilds the units with all latest updates.
