Question 99 or 00 ?

Since I am looking for a used, reliable TL, should I go for the 99 or 00? I would like the 99 because it is more likely to fit in my price range, but there were some issues there?

Some people said that I should get a 99 because that was before the major tranny problems.

Other people said I should get a '00 because those transmissions are under a long warranty, so if something goes wrong with it, it will be replaced (unlike if something happenned in the '99)

What do you all think?

Why? So you can bog down in two gears?

The 5 speed gets much better mileage, but I did have a 99 and had 50k+ trouble free miles.

Good luck.

If you look at carmax or autotrader, the price range of a 99 and 00 are not much different. I would go with the 00, only because it is newer.

The y2k model has the 5-speed, thus is 0.5 sec. quicker to 60 and gets 1 mpg better on 93 octane. It also has the side airbags that the 99 does not. Also it has a free 7 year or 100k mile guarantee on the transmission.

if u are considering a Navi, the 2000 has a U.S. DVD Navi vs. the Hard Drive Navi for only one region..

I have a '99 and my wife had an '01 and I liked the 4-speed better, but I also like to use the sportshift alot.

As far as the extended warranty, the 99's have not had a problem, hence no extended warranty, so you won't have to worry when you go over 100,000 in a '99, but you will not have that same comfort when the warranty runs out on the '00.

i have 115,000 trouble free miles on mine and the only reason my tranny died was cause i towed a mastercraft ski boat all summer. WAYYYYYY to heavy for our cars. it never had much of a problem doing it but it was tooo heavy and was heaver than the hitch recomends. i say '00' ther is another member here with like 140,000+ on the original tranny!

This alone should make you get the 99 TL.

I would much rather have a 99... they're the same cars, minus the tranny and the navi system, but if the navi system is really bothering you that much, you can buy the DVD version without spending a fortune, and I believe its plug and play.
