Smile 99 00 01 Which TL To Get?

I am new to the forum and planning on getting a used late model TL. I would appreciate any input on the 99 00 or 01 years and what I should know about the different years models and if I should avoid any particular model.

Thanks in advance for any input

Yep the only real change is that the 2000 has 5 speed & that might not be an issue for you. The 2000 & 2001 are the same except for the cup holder. This is the cheapest mod that you can do for the 1999 & 2000 models. You can upgrade the cupholder on them to be like the 2001 model. It will cost you less than $10.00 & takes less than 20 seconds to do.

Get the '01, or, if money is tight, the '00--the 5-speed tranny makes all the difference. If you've got some extra money lying around, get a used '02 if you can--personally I like the external styling tweaks of the '02 vs. the '99-'01, they made enough of a difference to me that I bought an '02.

Thanks Everyone- Some more Questions??

Thanks everyone for you help. Seems like 00 or 01 is the way to go to get the 5sp(If I can get some more $$ together maybe an 02).

Have there been many service bulletins on the 00 and 01. Anything major?

Also my wife has a 94 civic (which we will replace with the TL). The only thing we have had to do to it besides regular maintanence is a noisy heat shield. Can we expect the same trouble free op with the TL (I figure we can but just checking)?

Thanks again for everyones help!

Make sure the car is rattle free. Especially the sunroof. Also pay particular attention to the way it shifts. Does it shift nice and smooth? Is it "hunting" for gears? Some members have had transmision problems. Definitly buy it from an Acura dealer and make sure there is some kind of warrenty.

Then there are the usual things, does the car pool to one side, does it idle smooth, are the carpets "funny looking" (water damage). When buying any used car you definitly need more then a 10 minute test drive. Most dealers will let you take the car for an extened period, even a day, if they believe you are serious about the car.

Pick up a "used car buying guide" they usually have tips on what to look for in a car. Couple of buying tips....If the tires are more then half gone try to get new ones (for free) and new brakes

Good luck. TLs in general are awesome cars.

WPF look below at my mileage, and here are the repair items needed so far: one front brake rotor, one heated seat element, that's it. TL's are the the best, and I'm not easy on it either. Of course I am not mentioning maintenance items here - just things that broke or needed replacing.

You also get side airbags in the '00-'01 models. As for TSBs, aside from the assorted squeaks and rattles, the two biggest ones are the warped rotors and on late run '01s as well as the early '02s, it seems that some cars left the factory with washer fluid that had a high alcohol content. This caused the washer tubing and the wipers to break down, as a reult you would get some serious smudging and buildup on the windshield.

The rotor problem involves either replacing or resurfacing the rotors (depending on how bad they were warped), and replacing the brake pads.

The wiper problem involves replacing all of the washer tubing and wipers, along with flushing our all of that washer fluid.

I had both of these items fixed on my TL at 3K miles. The car now has nearly 12K miles with no other problems.

I loves my car.
