Thumbs down 80 to 60 in cruise then CEL / TCS!

last night while driving to the poconos from brooklyn i started to smell a strong burning scent then my car downshifted from 80mph to 60mph while using cruise control. i pulled to the side of the highway but it was too dark to see anything so i tried to drive it to a gas station then the CEL and TCS came on. i pulled to a gas station and checked the ATF and it was almost empty.

today i took my mothers car to a honda dealer here in the poconos and picked up some ATF. i filled it up and drove it for a few minutes and it doesnt feel bad at all. but my CEL is still on. i guess im gunna have to make an appointment with my dealer. if it is my tranny, thank got this happened b4 my warranty was up

i attempted to drive back to brooklyn (bad idea) while doing about 60-70mph i heard a loud roar and noticed my rpms were near redline and it started to have a burning smell. i pull over and shut it down for a lil bit, the after a lil while i start it back up and try to put it in drive but all it did was roll backwards lol. so i waited about 15-20 minutes longer for the tranny to cool down and i was able to drive it to and exit. i had the car towed from jersey to brooklyn (thank got my friend drives a tow truck.)and all i had to pay was tolls and gas wich comes out to about $60.

i called plaza auto mall to tell them my tranny is done and i asked them about a loaner situation and they were acting a lil shady. has anyone ever had a tranny replaced at plaza??

btw...i have a 2000 with 71,xxx

They won't get you a rental? My dealership will get you a rental if there's no loaners.

1-800-382-2238 is the number to Acura Client Services.

It's not fair your transmission goes out (because they don't know how to design one) and you are stuck stranded.

Dude....what dealership are you going to, that is bull shit..they must give you a rental if no loaner. My dealership said its part of the warrenty, they pay $35 a day towards a rental if no loaner. That usually covers some crappy Malibu, but it still a car. What dealership are you going to, this way I never go there.

I got a rental when there were no loaners although the TSX loaner was MUCH nicer than the Enterprise rental...I'd rag on either the dealer or the 800 number

Thats a load of bull call the dealer up again and demand a rental. They have to give you one. We got one when the tranny died in ours. enterprise gave us a Mazda 6 which was nice and fast for a 4 banger.

Since the transmission is under warranty, I would think they should pay for towing costs. It's also hard to make an appointment with a dealer when the transmission suddenly goes out. Acura service really sucks.

Apparently you're supposed to schedule your tranny failure now?

My dealer has always towed it in for free. It kind'a sucks that it's been multiple times, but they've paid for the tow. That was - however - under the bumper to bumper part of the warranty which if I recall included their roadside assistance program.

Without that - they might not cover it.

im out of that waranty. all i had to pay was the tolls ($43) and gas ($20) wich isnt bad coming from jersey to brooklyn. but if they were responsible i wouldve made my friend write up a nice recipt.

I am really sorry to hear that. I went through the same exact crap when my tranny died 70 miles from home, in the cali heat no less. The dealer never gave me a loaner and just seemed to treat me like crap because they were not getting paid for the work. I also had a similar expierience with Acura customer service. The way people here talked about them I figured they would be helpful. Exactly the opposite. Both people I spoke to at Acure customer service were pretty rude and unhelpful. But alas good customer service is pretty rare these days. They have to reimburse for the tow. Its part of the tranny warranty. My tow back to vegas cost $300 and it took a while but they go it to me. Have your friend write up a tow receipt and make them pay you least they can do. And yeah the dealer told me the same thing tranny is here will be done tommorow. A week later "tranny was done" but the car would not start at all and all of the sudden they wanted $600 for a new starter. I love my TL so much but will not buy another Acura at all just because of my local dealer and the apathy from Acura customer service. Anyway good luck man I hope they get you car back to you in good shape!

I didn't feel any shift at all either, but that was when my transmission had failed.

My new transmission is sometimes a jerky bitch.

The way it was done for me was Acura cuts a check and sends it to your dealer then the dealer sends it to you. Took a little over a month but I got all $300. Also do you notice your car just being overall louder? I am not sure but to me I can almost hear the tranny alot more like a low hum, maybe the fluid being pumped through. But yeah shifs don't feel too bad but I have had some strange kind of hickups on occasion where the car will rev and not respond for a sec or two. I don't even think that happened with my old tranny. Anyway good to hear your car is doing well !
