6 speed swap?
6 speed swap?
Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you guys out ther have tried swapping a CL 6 speed tranny to our TL's. I've seen the swap between a Supra 6 speed to an IS300 and was just wondering if any have tried this and if so, at what expense. Thanks!

It is possible, but as far as I know, no one has travelled down that road. You would need:
Tranny
ECU
Pedal cluster
Clutch
Cluster if you don't want the D5-P
Probably engine mount or 2(not sure if they are different or not)
Probably other stuff I am not thinking of right now too.
The main problem will be finding the parts, the 6 speed CLs are fairly rare, and all the stuff would have to come from one of those.

The idea of putting in a manual tranny into a 2nd gen TL/CL has been discussed before. Of course, if one has unlimited funds, any project can be accomplished.
However, due to the extensive electronic safety devices built into the system, it's a little more difficult than just a tranny swap. dands99tl probably listed most of the items you'd need to do the conversion. You'll probably also need a limited slip and all sorts of leads to connect to complete the mod.
It's apples VS oranges with the TL VS IS300/Supra. At least the IS300 comes as a manual out of the factory, so the Supra tranny can fit (engines are virtually identical). But again ... if you have $$$, then you can do anything.
My advice: trade your car in and get a 3rd gen TL if you want a 6-speed. Too many things could go wrong with your 2nd gen conversion.

an accord v6 guy did it. check v6performance.net. he said there was a lot of stuff wrong with the swap like reverse light wouldn't come on, the car wouldn't rev over 5K, and like 3 other things. not worth it IMO.
It would be sweet. Yeah the cost is a major factor. I know of a tuner company that does the IS/Supra swap and they charge $10k for just the tranny swap and another $10K for the turbo engine as well. Oh well. It would definitely make our car an awesome sleeper though!
