5 speed tranny on a 99 tl

i have a 99 acura tl, which everyone knows has a 4 speed tranny, will the car run any better and have better acceleration with a 5 speed tranny? and if so will i need anything but the tranny it self?

i dont think it will work without a lotta modification ... such as the ecu and probably some extra wiring ... just a guess though, and also statistically the four speed is more reliable then the five speed, so if u do swap might as well do the 6mt conversion from the CL

fssmtl (is that how you spell it?) did a 6-speed conversion, and has a DIY somewhere here...

This has been brought up before. It isn't worth the money to do so. It would be cheaper and more beneficial to do a Type S with a 6spd MT swap. Especially considering the reliability issues with the 5spd trannies.

To do the 4 to 5spd conversion, you would need the ECU, wiring harness, shift gate, mounts, and instrument cluster at a minimum.

If you get the 5AT, you'll need a '00-'03 TL ECU, the wiring harness (because of the tranny), and transmission. I wouldn't pay so much for a downgrade. Yes, that's right, "downgrade". Those 5-speeds are shit compared to the 4-speeds in reliability. Keep the 4-speed
