i have personally wasted IS300s easily in a straight line by several car lengths before the 1320. Stock vs stock the IS will never be a match in a line until they get the manual gearbox. Of course, the IS300 has much better handling capabilities than both the CL and TL. However, most drivers have not autocrossed before so they suck at driving and handling won't make much of a difference on the streets anyway because nobody on the streets really pulls autocross maneuvers which call forth the full handling capabilities of the car.

what's the point? you guys know the answer stock vs. stock. rubbing it in or something? BTW, not trying to star a flame, but IS300 DOES have more potential as a drag car and track car that any TL. TL is just a really nice and practical daily driver.

yea i would have to go with lexus_is300 because the original question was, he was trying to hunt down the guy in his area who seemed to have some mods, and he wanted to know if he could win with his TL, if he does have some mods, i guess it would be a close match...tell us the results...

IS would outperform the TL around turns.

But you're comparing a sports car to a sedan.

Depends if you want a 4 door or 2 door.

is300 is also a sedan, and is not a sports car. sports car would be a miata or mr2 spyder.

I'd say you really need to do one of two things:

1. Realize that the first Maxima with the VQ35 was the 5.5gen

2. Check the dates before you drag back up meaningless 5 year old threads!

Sorry, I realize that you are new to this community. Perhaps this would have been easier to bear if you hadn't posted a useless reply to a thread that is ancient.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one, although many may think it's a sedan, it's also a sports car because of this reason.... Lexus' consumer audience are nothing more than mid to old aged people; the entire purpose of the Lexus IS300 is to attract the attention of the younger generation, i.e. me. Hence, the performance package it's attributed to. Think about it, younger people don't want soft smooth rides, wide turns, and quiet interiors, they want agility, a closer feeling to the road, etc.. you get the picture. That's why I'd classify it a sports car, within the Lexus model line. Here's a little tid-bit for you, the IS 300's insurance premiums are alot higher than any of the other models Lexus has to offer in comparison the last time I checked.. i've done quotes before when I was looking around for a new car a year ago. Ironically, it'd be cheaper for me to own an LS430 than the IS. lol

Bringing up an old thread from the dead. Any talks about Car A VS Car B ... please post in car talk. However, if it's a drag race (ie who's faster?) ... post in competition section of the TL forums.

Thread closed.
