My tranny died today while driving. Luckily I was real close to the dealership I was taking it to. I was driving at around 45mph and the thing just slammed down into 2nd, and jerked back into 4 or 5th. VSA light was blinking. I called acura right away and took it there. WHEN is ACURA going to deal with this? Im damn pissed for spending over 30k on a car and its been going to the dealership for another tranny on top of all the rattles! I would sell it, if I wasn't going to take such a hit on the price. I cant afford to get so little for the car! oh well.

They gave me an intrepid SXT, they had a magnum and a 300c sitting on the lot at the car rental place. I wish I showed up only 15 mins later, because the next customer came in asking for a full size car as well, and since they didn't have one, they gave him the 300c! That would of been nice to have fun with for a week. Instead I got this bright red intrepid wit fake chrome! FU*K ACURA! Even though I still love my car! its just annoying!

I drive both city and highway. Not too rough on the car either, every once in awhile. But driving habbits are probably like the average mid 20 year old who owns the car.

I'm on my 3rd tranny as well......i know how you feel. I still love the car, but I'm defintely frustrated by the tranny. Call Acura Care and let them know your experiences. I did and so did Yield2S.

Anyone ever look into the Lemon Law and see if they apply?? I thought there was a 3 times and your car is a lemon???

yea but my car has about 55k miles on it, Im not even under normal warranty anymore. I doubt there is any law that helps me now!

hey I'm at 78k w/ 4 replacements and I DO have a case. Look at my sig, your falling right in line w/ my failures, At this pace you'll have anouther at 78k like me. Call a lawyer now! some state make it VERY hard to win a case after 70k miles so dont wait like i did. (I'm in Cali so the lawyer run the show here.)

If you are out of waranty (like I am as well), you cannot file for the lemon law (at least in NJ, but i believe this is country wide as well).

My lawyer here in cali doesnt seem to think so and yes she's a "lemon law" lawyer,filing my case under the lemon law.(If it goes to filing)

its gonna feel sweet getting a FREE brand new 02 TL-S replacement for your current TL-S with 78Kmi+ on it...if i had your tranny problems, i'd get it and sell it, get the 28-33Gs and get another car.

I've got my fingers crossed. but I wont be getting a new 02 If i decide to stay w/ acura I'll ask for an 04 6spd tl at cost. And a refund of every payment plus taxes and registration plus pay-off on my current ride.

due yourself a favor and read the boiled down version of the 1000 page report from Honda to the NHTSA thats floating around. From that report its obvious to me that its the 5th to 3rd gear "kick down" that creates a detrimentle amount of isolated heat in the 3rd gear clutch pack 380* after afew kick downs a minute that causing the problems. thats why I feel that the owner who drive in congested freeway situation (like i do) suffer threw failure like I.
If you drive mostly city/town driving or a less demanding freeway drive you'll probably have fewer failures.
BTW after the second failure I installed a B&M tranny cooler. It did nothin to reduce the frequency of failure

I hear you, I am on tranny #4 on my 2002 TL. I expect they will do nothing until someone is killed, and it will happen, as when that tranny downshifts at highway speeds, it's damn scary and unsafe.

yea when I was driving and it downshifted when I was doing only 45mph, my mom was in the car, she was yelling at me thinking I was doing something! She was holding on for dear life.....it was actually a little funny. You know how moms can be a little over dramatic especially when in the passanger seat. It did it about 3 times, and then she said when I got to the dealer she was going to kill the service manager for putting her in a death car. I should of let her yell when we got there, but I was being polite. Technically its not the service manager's fault, hes like take it up with acura, he can't do anything unless they authorize it. oh well.
